Won't print a browser page or story - won't send to printer like IE11

more options

Click Print or Print Preview on a browser page or story and when I click print, nothing happens and there is nothing in "What's Printing cue window. Same page or story on same computer will print with IE11 to an "attached" HP2420 laser printer on another machine in our LAN (all hardwired). Also have a Brother MFC-L2740 networked and FF prints fine to it.

Worked fine until recently so rolled back the machine and even uninstalled MSFT updates for prior couple weeks but no go....anybody have any idea?

Thanx,

ChedFred

It's hard to know whether you succeeded by blowing the cobwebs off the program folder or whether the bug was actually fixed in between Firefox 47 and 49, but here's hoping it stays fixed!

Are you saying Firefox will print to the Brother printer but not the HP printer, or it won't print to either printer, or particular pages won't print to either printer?

How do you call up the Print function? Usually the Ctrl+p keyboard shortcut would display the Print dialog. (Same as the classic menu bar's File > Print) Is that nonfunctional?

Sometimes when Firefox is broken without any explanation it helps to:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

It only takes a few minutes.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 49.0.2 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.) Choose the "Windows" version (32-bit) for your 32-bit Windows system.

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Using Windows Explorer/My Computer, rename the program folder as follows:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in step (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

Any improvement?

jscher,

You make me feel like a rookie. Problem fixed by installing V 49.0. I was running 47.0 and when I checked that version it said "firefox is up to date" which now I know means only the Version you are running. Glad guys like you are there to bail us out.

Thanks, til next time,

ChedFred
