How do I stop an unlisted search engine ("Minecraft -> http://minecraft.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=___")

If the first word of my search query is "minecraft", then the search always goes to the minecraft wiki at minecraft.gamepedia.com.

But I don't want that. I want Google to search the web for information about minecraft. I am almost never asking for information from the wiki, and if I am, it will show up in a normal google search.

Google is my default search engine. Minecraft wiki is not even on the list. This happens whenever the first word of the search is "minecraft".

If it's the second word, then no problem? That sounds like the "keyword" feature. The most logical place to look for it would be the Options page, Search panel. The list of search engines has a column on the right for the keyword.

Another place to look is your bookmarks. If you call up the Library dialog using either --

  • Ctrl+Shift+b
  • "Show All Bookmarks"

-- then in the search box at the upper right enter %s which is the placeholder used in search URLs.

Can you find one for that Gamepedia page? If so, click it, then at the bottom if the Keyword field is not visible, click the More button to show all the fields. If that bookmark has minecraft as its keyword, delete the keyword and tab to the next field to save your change.

Any luck so far?

That was it. I never even knew about the "keyword" feature of bookmarks.

And yes, as explained, that's the address bar, not the search bar. From the search bar (command-K, not command-L), the search actually does what I want.

Thank you.
