I just updated to Firefox 47.0 tonight, and it is crawling something vicious. Anyone else having this problem? What could be causing this?

That quickly I went into add-ons to find something called Widevine Content Encryption Module that I hadn't recognized before and seems to have been automatically set to "Always Activate." Turned it off, and it seems to have improved the speed of the browser, though still not totally.

Is Firefox sill running slow?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

I told you that I deactivated the plugin and that made things a bit better. Still, if I go on a page with quite a bit of graphics like a twitter feed with a lot of embedded pictures or videos, the graphics in the browser mess up. I'm also getting hangs on Yahoo's homepage when scrolling down through the news stories. Playing around with the whole Safe Mode canard is not going to change that.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

This may help.

Flash block {web link} Never be annoyed by a Flash animation again! Blocks Flash so it won't get in your way, but if you want to see it, just click on it
