Firefox goto http://filename.fileext instead of search filename.fileext
Firefox tries to go to http://www.test.txt instead of search test.txt when I put 'test.txt' to the location bar, opposite to its behavior couple of dozen versions ago. How can I toggle this?

Is searching via the location/address bar enabled?
You can check the keyword.enabled pref on the about:config page. You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Yes, location bar search is active.
I don't remember what used to happen with "single word" searches containing a period, but I didn't spot any preference that would affect whether they are treated as potential domain names vs. being searched.
I think the most obvious workaround options are:
(1) Use a search engine keyword, for example,
g text.txt
to force a Google search (assuming you assign g as the keyword for Google on the Search Options page -- double-click the keyword column for Google to choose a keyword)
(2) Make it a two word search such as
test.txt i
since multi-word searches are always submitted to your default search engine.
Here's hoping a better answer is found.
