its a miracle if I can get FF to start even in safe mode .

I am handicapping you I am sure since I am unable to provide more trouble shooting information. I don't know how to get it from FF into IE. for that I apologize. Currently using

FF Ver. 41.0.2 yes I know it is a tad older but the problems remain regardless of version.

I am lost, old, and tired after having spent countless hours on this and not being to familiar with Forums, I am begging for help and thanking you in advance for it.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Thank you Fred McD,

I did as you suggested. The problems remain the same in or out of Safe Mode.

Now when I close the next time I start FF ask if I want to restore session.

does anybody have any ideas how to resolve this?

I'm going Beyoncé here and I don't want to go IE

more options

ok.. I am at wits end..

I removed all traces of Firefox program files shortcuts etc...

used CC cleaner and Win optimizer 12 for registry purposes.

Installed the latest Firefox Version in "SAFE MODE" with Anti Virus programs disabled.

restarted the PC and opened FF not a@)$(@)!! bit a difference; the problem(s) remain.

Slow Startup & Close

Hanging when closing. * though a scouche faster but far slower than FF has been historically.

I attempted to download Ad Block Plus and, No Script from the extension site and, both hung forever before (finally) installing. Those are the only extensions loaded.

Stalls when loading my Yahoo Homepage and I can barely get the Log in screen to appear let alone work . seems like every solution posted refers to a specific extension, program, web page, download, etc... as the cause of the problem which doesn't appear to be the problem here.

I can't find anything wrong especially after starting fresh with no add ons.

I did note on some occasions that 2 FF executable would appear in the Task Manager but not always.

Any and all help and suggestions would be appreciated. I don't want to leave FF. I've been with going back to circa 1996 during the Netscape era.

so please help

Many thanks

Thank you Cor-el for your suggestion.

I was beginning to feel like Ted Cruze at a trump rally.

I have loaded the 64 bit version and

Sad to say though better, FF is not working properly.

Loads very slowly and, even when a page loads the Wheel on the tab just keeps on rotating clockwise and counter clockwise for several minutes. this is true no matter what page I am loading.

I immediately tried to update my add-ons and crashed.

Can't restart in safe mode because the only way to close fully is thru the task manager.

Just opening up to my yahoo home page consumes 700-800k of memory.

Sorry to keep asking for help but I've tried everything I can think of short of throwing the PC out the window.

I need to fix this soon my work is dependent on being able to open and work with Multiple Tabs at one time.

My appreciation and thanks for your efforts.

What was the latest version of Firefox that worked properly?

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

Thank you Fred McD

I did as you instructed and the problem(s) remain. ( Slow and/or not fulling loading, Crashing and hanging closes. Difficulty restarting with add- ons disabled again crashing).

To make sure the problem was not a slow connection I broke down and used the "other guys" browser which zipped along beautifully.

Here is this last crash report link if that helps.

I think I'm having the same problem. Firefox opens fine and my internet connection works fine, but when I try to go to any website, Firefox hangs and I get a "Not Responding" and I have to shut it down via Task Manager.

McD,

I ran Scannow and checked my on board Intel 4000 video drivers a few days ago and re-checked at your suggestion.

No errors were found and my drivers are up-to-date.

In addition I disabled Hardware Acceleration

Same old results.

Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Use one of these to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit (Power button)
  • Windows: File > Exit
  • Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox
  • Linux: File > Quit

Cor-el,

Over the past several days I have repeated your suggestions several times to no avail. A few moments ago I deleted everything I could find and re-installed the latest 64 bit version and the problem(s) remain right from the moment the install finished and I clicked start. No add-ons, no Home page and still FF struggles to load pages and not crash.

I journeyed over to the add-ons page to load No script, Ad block, and roomy toolbar a process that took about 30 -45 minutes and I don't know how many times FF crashed and, struggled to install each and every one. I closed FF and still have to check the task manager to make sure because the program doesn't always close.

Now that I have eliminated all add-ons and installed FF. fresh; I am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong With my Windows 7 installation?

Please advise what else can I do to resolve this. My Frustration level is approaching Trumps.

Cheers,

Lowensj

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support to see if that has effect in case security software is causing problems.

Cor-el,

I ran all the Anti-Virus programs you recommended including, Rebooting in Safe-Mode with networking.

The Problems remain though there was some improvement in Safe Mode.

IE works fine (sad to say) so I would think that if there is a Malware/ Virus issue it would appear there also.
