My default browser has become search-quick.com without my requssting it, and I can't get rid of it even if I reset the preferences for Google. What do do?
The so-called search engine search-quick.com comes up as my regular browser. I had never heard of it and did not ask for it. It's a lot slower than google, duckduck or anything else. Yet I can't get rid of it. I went to Firefox preferences and reset my default browser for Google, but it will not come up. I must now access Google through search-quick.com. How can I get rid of quick-search? It's maddneing enough for me to abandon Firefox. Please help....

That's probably not a common problem on a Mac.
First off try to test in Firefox's safemode. Also look for any unwanted toolbars or other unwanted programs installed on the Mac.
I do not use Mac s but thy have Clam Anti Virus installed don't they ? If so also scan with that.

Are any of them to blame for this change ?

Check what shortcut is used to start Firefox has that got anything tacked on to it ?
Can you start Firefox form a command line ? Does that help ? (Sorry I know how to do that in Linux & Windows but not on a Mac)
Edit. I will not bump the thread unnecessarily. Clam may not help, and is built in to the server not standard OS X. Macs do have some built in tools and precautions. I do now have a better understanding of Macs and Malware issues.

That article confirms this is likely to change shortcuts.
Inbox Toolbar also looks like something most users will not want.

Again the details relate to Windows but in this case may well be at least partially applicable to a Mac
I did find an article specific to Macs but not this issue. It still seems likely to be something that could help. It recommends use of AdwareMedic

That is not software I have heard of, but Malwaretips is a reputable site. I have broken the direct link because otherwise it will download the file when it is clicked, and that is not good forum practice.

The free clam software is not all that user friendly. I have versions of that installed myself.
