ad.doublecheck.net keeps showing tabs/popups when I go to almost any site or do a search. I have used several malware program scans, reset firefox, reset IE and still have the problem. How can I kill the beast.

DoubleClick is an advertising company owned by Google. Since those ads appear all over the web, I think we should start by assuming that these are ads pulled in by pages you are visiting, and not a kind of malware on your system.

Have you considered using a general purpose ad blocker? Here are links to two popular ones (I haven't tried these myself):

Alternately, you could try a targeted script block. The YesScript extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../yesscript/) lets you block Firefox from loading/running scripts from particular servers. I haven't tested it myself, so I don't know whether you need to specify both http and https addresses for that server.

Adblock Plus {web link} Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more. Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).

Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon {web link} Adblock Plus Pop-up Addon extends the blocking functionality of Adblock Plus to those annoying pop-up windows that open on mouse clicks and other user actions.

As far as I am concerned ad.doubleclick.net is malware. It just started showing up recently. If it is owned by Google they are really messing up because it basically blocks any searches I do on Google by replacing search results with another tab that I could only get out of by shutting down firefox. I was using Block Site which sort of worked but ublock seems to be much better. This is only after 15 minutes or so of testing but it seems to have done the job. Thanks.
