Can't Upload to Many Sites

more options

Overview:

Recently I've begun experiencing an issue on one machine where I cannot upload to a number of sites. It's not all sites, however, which is strange.

Internet Explorer on the same machine does fine.

I run Firefox on several machines, this is the only machine that's developed this issue (at this time).

Details:

I'm using Firefox 42.0 on Windows 7 x64. This is a recent issue.

I've tried:

  • safe mode
  • disabling IPv6 within about:config
  • disabling dns pre-fretch in about:config
  • disabling addons/plugins
  • deleting cookies
  • deleting offline data
  • deleting cached data
  • trying a new portable profile
  • complete reinstall of Firefox

Nothing makes any difference.

Reproducing the Issue:

The easiest test is to go to bing.com and try to do an image match search. It hangs on the image upload.

One upload that does work is google's image match, I can go into image mode and drop an image and it works just fine.

Addons/Plugins (not included with Firefox):

  • Adblock Plus
  • NoScript
  • EagleGet
  • Silverlight.

I've tried safe mode/with them not even installed and the problem persists.

Machine Details:

  • Windows 7 x64 SP1 (Enterprise Edition, TechNet)
  • AMD Athlon II X2 CPU
  • nVidia GeForce 6150SE GPU
  • 4GB RAM
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Comcast Internet Connection (via NAT) (No Proxy)
  • DNS server is on the LAN and is running BIND

(edit: formatting, additional details)

Looking at the issue with a packet analyzer, there seem to be a lot of reassembled PDUs and retransmitted packets for some reason.

The image seems to be uploaded, more than once, but then there are a lot of keep-alives passed back and forth with nothing else.

I will be the first to admit I am not familiar enough with HTTP at this level but thought I'd look anyway.

I would start to look at the TCP layer if Internet Explorer didn't upload the image just fine on the same machine.

Since you're not shy of messing with Firefox, how about a Refresh? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and-settings

It pretty much does the whole removing add-ons and creating a new profile routine, but in a controlled manner. Has been a quick fix for many people, including ones with trouble uploading (when manual fixes failed).

Beyond that, what security software do you use on the troubled machine and are you uploading to HTTPS sites?

Security: Behind a NAT, Windows Defender, ClamWin (scans downloads when completed, not an active system).

I'll give the refresh a try.

Refresh did not resolve the issue (it's exactly the same).
