Why are Amazon suggesting Chrome or Edge will resolve my stutter issues ?

If they've sending this as a general message they presumably have picked up something? And why did it work for me ? (I have Flash protected mode off)

I don't think from this message that they suggest using Google Chrome or IE or Edge. They merely advice to use the HTML5 media player in those browsers for better performance. I don't know why they didn't include Firefox in this list as a HTML5 media player should work fine with current Firefox releases as well unless Firefox would report that it doesn't support the media types that the server offers and switch to a Flash based player.

I'm not really posting about my problem. For the record this is that video play back via IP keeps ...... pausing...............then restarting......and pausing.

Now I know there might be a 101 reasons why that could happen; I was presuming the bottleneck was with the ISP. I was most surprised when Amazon video flashed up a message that my video stutter should be resolved by using Edge or Chrome. I was even more surprised when trying this demonstrated it was true.

But the real point is that if Amazon are broadcasting this message there must be a widespread issue currently with Firefox. Not saying it affects everyone, but if it was just me I struggle to believe Amazon would send me a personal tip :-)

So for now I split tasks, Firefox & Edge.

Ok, I get round to running more video on FF, and see if I can re-trigger the message. If so I'll take a screenshot.

The reason I don't just ignore the message is because I do indeed get stutter problems with Firefox (which it seems is using Flash - don't recall making a choice). So thx, I'll get round to seeing how to try HTML5 with Firefox. Presumably Edge uses that by default, as I'm sure I wasn't given any choices here either.

What player is Firefox currently using if you check that via the right-click context menu of the player area?


You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.


You can check for problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions and try this:
