"save image as" fails in 39.0, (worked in earlier versions), is there a workaround?

more options

still running XP (I know, I know...), and I've been using Firefox to same screen images from a network connected Tektronix scope; it has always worked fine, right-click, "save image as" (choice of *.png only). but v.39.0 goes through the same motions, then shows it as "failed."

current version of IE does it ok (but defaults to *.bmp)

another machine here on same network, which had Firefox v.37.xxx also worked fine; but then we let it update, and get same fail mode.

any ideas?

There were some changes in Firefox 39 with Save Image As, but I am only today starting to learn about them...

I'm not sure this will work, especially if the images are refreshed frequently, but if you right-click and then Ctrl+click View Image to open the image in a new tab, does that work?

And if it does, can you use Ctrl+s to save the image? That uses the Save Page As code which works differently than Save Image As.

thanks, it does open image in a new tab, but "save image as" then fails, same way

Hi Paul, instead of using Save Image As, try using the save page feature. Here are the ways to do that:

  • Ctrl+s
  • right-click the black background outside the image > Save Page As
  • "3-bar" menu button > Save Page
  • File menu > Save Page As

still no joy; it briefly creates a file, then it disappears, and the download icon shows it as "failed"

any other ideas?

(btw, there was no "3-bar" menu visible during this process)

That is very odd. Does the Downloads panel give any explanation for the failure, such as a security block? There may be some sites that behave differently when an image is in a new tab vs. in a page, but I would expect that workaround to work on the typical site. Do you notice any variance from site-to-site or are there particular sites where you have this problem?

(By the "3-bar" menu button I mean the one that usually appears at the right end of the main toolbar that looks somewhat like a short stack of pancakes.)

I did not see any explanation, but I didn't look, and now I'm away from the laboratory where I've been having the problem. However, the "site" is a locally-connected Tektronix 'scope (192.168.1.xxx), and the 'scope has not changed the way it behaves.

In the meantime I reverted to v.37.0.2, which works fine. I also told it not to update!

Oh, I understood what you meant by "3-bar" menu, and no such thing was displayed; I looked for it, in vain.
