As for the way the "Ask a Question" process works, it is being revised regularly, so you may see more or fewer or different suggested solutions, etc., at different times. Since there is no such thing as one size fits all, it will probably never be perfect.

FF won't connect to AOL. I've done everything that was suggested in questions answered. Next is to delete FF & forget it. I've deleted & re-installed it 2 X's in the last year. When it works I like it but I don't have the time to play with it.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

• Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
• Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
• Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

• Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

• Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

• Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
• Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

I've done everything you suggested. Totally disgusted. Uninstalled FF.

If you change your mind later, it would be helpful to know exactly what error message(s) you were getting from Firefox when you tried to visit the site.

I told you. It said it couldn't open AOL. I tried everything FF told me & nothing worked.

Do you see an error message when you try to go to the AOL site?

• Make sure that you do not exceed the maximum size of 1 MB

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I hear you, but we use the exact wording of the error message to search for solutions so if you later decide to test it again, please let us know the exact wording or you could post a screen shot of the error if it's difficult to copy/paste the text of the message.

Can't do screenshot. Not able to open AOL to get to my Email. I've switched to Internet Explorer which I hate. I use an AD disabler with FF but turned it off to see if that was the problem. Not. Screen says Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to server at WWW.aol.com The next line says to make sure my Firewalls will allow access. Can't see how that could be the problem since it was working fine when I closed down the night before & I made no changes. I just downloaded FF again from the site supposedly for aol users. Still not working.

Thank you for the additional details. I'm a little worried about a custom version of Firefox for AOL users. Any idea how that is different from regular Firefox? (Many users with the AOL Toolbar are having problems with a mysterious blank dialog box blocking the home page. It sounds like you don't have that issue.)

When I tried the link http://www.aol.com/ I got an error that the connection was reset, but it loaded when I tried again.

When I click the email link, I get a crazy long URL for login that may or may not be the same one you use. This seems to be the heart of it after trimming: https://my.screenname.aol.com/_cqr/login/login.psp?sitedomain=sns.mail.aol.com&seamless=novl&lang=en&locale=US&authLev=0

Does that look like the way you usually access email? Will that domain load even if the www won't load?

When I clear cookies for the site, I get the old interface back, so this probably isn't a factor for you since you already did that.

Based on past threads, sites on the AOL network are particular about connection settings. Could you check here:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default "Use system proxy settings" should follow the setting for IE, but you also could try "No proxy" to see whether that works better. Auto-detect can cause problems staying logged in on AOL network sites.

The download for aol came off the FF web site. I've tried everything & it hasn't worked. If they changed the web site they haven't said anything. I'll need to try something else. No more time to screw around with this problem. Another thought is that aol is trying a way to make people pay again. They've given free Email accounts for years. Also heard that Verizon was going to buy them, Another money hungry poor service company.

If you reach a point where you need to get AOL working in Firefox again, post back for further thoughts. Until then, here's hoping it will magically fix itself the same way it mysteriously broke itself.

FF is finally working & you won't believe how or you'll see what a dummy I am. When I checked if the Firewall was off the site's I checked indicated yes. But I'm using Windows 8.1. New to me & no real directions with it with my new laptop. Today I decided hell or high water FF was going to work & took badly needed time to work with it. Don't use Tools of the internet. Do- Control panel System & Security Allow Apps to communicate thru firewalls Change FF to allow Hope this helps another dummy like me
