I did updates on adobe XI to DC. I hate it. Is there a way to get Adobe XI with the PDF files in it?

When I was checking out Plug-ins and updating them, I was not prepared for the Adobe DC with Cloud and the other things it has to offer. The Adobe XI that I had contained my PDF files. When my Vista OS fell apart, I lost quite a few things. The only thing I do not like is that you cannot get the older version of Adobe back on the desktop unless you are an IT person, which I am not. I know it has to be on the hard drive. I have tried to download it, but it comes up this an error stating that Adobe DC is the version I want. I have a Dell Windows 7 Professional Inspiron 3847 2013. I just wish I could have my Adobe XI.

Can you download the installer for Reader XI on this page: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

(I know that says it is for businesses, but I don't think they're checking!)

Most likely you need to uninstall Reader DC in the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a program, before you can install an older version.

Or is that what you already tried?

This is not the same as the one before. But I appreciate your help. I do usually do not updates because I did not know that it would be cloud. I am not that tech savvy. It is worse than a job. I do like Bubble shoot. At least I have gmail and drive and whatever that is. I may have my information on a flash drive. Norton helped me save all kinds of stuff after losing N360 on my desktop. That is why I like them. And I really like firefox because the folks there are smarter than the average bear. And in my neighborhood, I have several waltzing thru the neighborhood in WNC.

I'm not in a rush to change from Reader XI to Reader DC myself because I'm in no hurry to use Adobe's cloud services.

Hopefully you can get Reader XI working again as needed, and we can mark this thread as solved.

I have it , but the font is HUGE! Last year Adobe mentioned about getting rid of one of their products. I sure did not think it would have been adobe reader. The cloud bothers me, like a lot of things on social media, once you post it, it is gone and you never get it back. Check the size of my image. Is there a way to shrink it without shrinking my regular home page. I am not a wizard on the computer, as you can tell. I really appreciate your help.

Hi RadicalDudette, I'm not sure what is causing the high zoom in your Adobe Reader. If you open a document, is it also oversized relative to what the claimed zoom level is?

In some cases, scaling problems can be caused by Compatibility options, so usually it is best to avoid using any of them. You can check by right-clicking your desktop icon for Adobe Reader XI, then Properties > Compatibility tab.

If that isn't the problem, you might need to ask on Adobe's forums. Perhaps there is a settings file somewhere you can remove so it behaves more like the original installation (pre-DC).

Hi jscher2000, Do you happen to have Windows 7? and live near Western NC? So far everything you have written has worked. The only thing I did was freeze up my zoom control button on the tool bar. I have to close out the windows because the page on about the adobe plug ins does not fit my screen and I can close it. And I need to take a break and walk my dog and visit the library for murder mysteries. Thank you for all you help.

I do have Windows 7 but I'm on the other coast.

Adobe is forcing everyone to go to their cloud service. They intend to force everyone to pay them for services you had in your old programs.

Microsoft is doing the same thing.

Hewlett Packard is trying to force customers into using their "ink subscription services", with monthly charges.

The dream is that YOU will pay these companies a set fee every month or every year. Of course it will cost the consumer more in the long run, but you will have no choice because they will have YOUR data and you will never again own their software or their machines. You will be a perpetual renter.

I do not want to be a part of Cloud. Once the info is out there, it it is too late to get it back. Cloud is well known for that. If I want to save something I will use a disc or flash drive.

When I went to upgrade my add-ons, I knew I made a serious mistake when I saw the new Icon for Adobe. Wrong color. And when I opened it up other things were added that I did not need nor did I want. Just like Windows 7. After using Vista for 8 years, I was not ready for all the new changes. I still do not know all the things that Windows 7 does. At least I can keep my home page the same.

Firefox is stopping add-ons unless the uses knows and trusts the person that designed it. One of the reasons I like Firefox compared to IE. Also, if I need help, there is always some one out there who knows how to help me.

The day I have to rent a computer and the software that goes with it, is the day I will have a Smashing Party "Booze, Sodas, and Rubber Mallets and Metal Hammers."

I use Firefox. I use Windows 7. I was a Vista user.

I miss Windows XP and Office 97. NOTHING new is an improvement to the user. It's all about making everything work better for corporations and creating proprietary applications for users.

While you might think you have some control over updates, I promise you do not. Eventually, a corporation will send you a document you cannot open with anything but the corporate approved software. Eventually, your ISP will not allow anything but their approved software.

I have removed Adobe DC twice, and am forced to use it again. I hate, hate, hate it. While I can view what my company sends me, I cannot do anything but look at the pages or fill out their forms and post a ghost image of everything I do to Adobe's cloud. If I want to modify a document, or search, or add a text box, I need to contact Adobe, pay them a yearly use fee, and download a key.

Yes, you would think a corporation would never use such invasive software, but let's be real here; the Director of the CIA uses AOL and was just hacked. How long ago did we all leave AOL because it was invasive and not secure? 1996 or so?

The people have no choice but create their own, like wikipedia (remember Microsoft Encarta?, yeah, they died).
