A website that I have been using for the last 6 months all of a sudden won't open. It does open in other browsers with no problems. At times it takes over a minute for it to open and when it eventually opens, anything that I click on, it then takes forever again for the link to open. It never did this in the past. This started happening yesterday. I cleared out all temporary files and cookies. I also restored my pc to a previous date and it made no change.

Help would be appreciated.

What is the website you are trying to look at?

The site is ontariolearn.com

I have 3 other laptops in the house and this site opens just fine on those laptops.

As indicated in my previous post....the site in question opens fine in my other laptops. Firefox works fine in this laptop with all other sites that I use on a daily basis except for this ontariolearn site. Its very puzzling since it never gave me problems for 6 months.

Thank you for the links you have sent, I have went through them already. I did go through suggestions mentioned in this support help before posting my issue. I was hoping someone may have the same problem and have a fix. I also did a malaware scan and it found absolutely nothing.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I have done what you suggested and it didn't work unfortunately. The site I am trying to access is still taking forever to load on this laptop, from 3 to 5 minutes and once it loads, when I proceed to log in, the very same thing happens again. 3 to 5 minutes to move to the next page. All other sites that I browse during the day work just fine.

I will point out that after I deleted the user.js and prefs.js, when I restarted Firefox everything was still there, all my bookmarks and things. Is that what is suppose to happen?

Yes, deleting prefs.js and user.js only reset all settings to the default value. It doesn't affect other data like bookmarks and cookies although the cookie settings as they appear in "Options > Content" are reset.

Do you see any status messages at the bottom of the window like waiting for?

Does the Network log give any information?

You can check the Net log and the Network log in the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer).

more options

No status messages at the bottom of the window.

What kind of info do I need to look for in the Network Log? It indicates to reload and when I do that, there is a lot of info there and I don't really know what I am looking for.

You can check the timeline to see what content takes unnecessarily long to arrive.

I'm really clueless as to what you really want me to do here. A little more information as to steps to take would be helpful.

I think I understand what you want me to do. This is the I get when trying to log out of the site (it take several minutes to exit)

This site makes use of a SHA-1 Certificate; it's recommended you use certificates with signature algorithms that use hash functions stronger than SHA-1.[Learn More] login.nphp ReferenceError: WebFont is not defined ontarioLearn.js:1:0

Logging in I get the following :

Use of getAttributeNode() is deprecated. Use getAttribute() instead.

ReferenceError: jQuery is not defined

This site makes use of a SHA-1 Certificate; it's recommended you use certificates with signature algorithms that use hash functions stronger than SHA-1.[Learn More]

ReferenceError: WebFont is not defined

Then once I log into that site, I have to move on to the Blackboard and I get this message:

This site makes use of a SHA-1 Certificate; it's recommended you use certificates with signature algorithms that use hash functions stronger than SHA-1.[Learn More]

and a Red Banner indicating that Style Sheet could not be loaded.

i hope all this makes sense to you.

I am posting to advise that all seems fixed. The site in question is running back to normal for me. Last night I sent all the Web Console messages that I posted in here to Ontario Learn and they advised that they would investigate. I have not heard back from them yet, but this morning, the site is working fantastic. In my opinion, it seems the problem was on their end.

Thanks all for your help.
