how do I get rid of the chinese characters at the top of the screen?
I have seen several responses to this situation, none of them seem to be definitive directions on how to resolve the problem. Is there a step by step process to take to get rid of the problem?

hello, this is a displaying flaw caused by the mcafee site advisor extension - please try to disable or remove that in case you have it present until there is an update by mcafee that can fix the problem.
