What is the difference between Mozilla, Firefox and Google?

When I turn on the computer Google comes up for me to sign in to because (I guess) that's the email corporation. But there are icons on a "bar" that are apparently Firefox. And nothing that says Mozilla. It seems to me that Firefox used to come up and then there was a place to click on Google for email.

I don't understand these relationships and what a browser is vs homepage vs search engine (which is always, for some reason, a thing called "bing"). Younger computer savvy people cannot seem to give me the answers - they will always start talking circles around my head as if I already understand these things. At my work, the only class I ever got was when all this started around 1991.

Google has a browser called Google Chrome. Microsoft Windows provides and installs a browser called Internet Explorer (IE). You should have IE on the computer.

You would appear to have posted this question using Firefox. So it appears that Firefox is working. It is possible to set Firefox as the default browser if that is what you are trying to do.

Not really the place for explaining the basics. However I will try to give some useful links.

First of all try to learn some of the basics about Firefox, or at least be aware where to look

Links are often blue and lead to resources like help article when clicked. This is one about links

Firefox is a browser

Google is a big company famous for it's search engine and also a provider of webmail (email) services

Firefox has a default homepage that has a search bar on it, and some icons for useful things. Homepage in Firefox parlance is the page Firefox usually displays when it starts. (In fact multiple pages may be set, and then open as tabs). Google itself will have a homepage, in that case a page about Google or a google service, and the Google Webmail service will have a logon page (So you may enter the account details and pasword - Or have Firefox do that for you).

Here are a couple Google's pages and one of their email logon pages

You may wish to set both the standard Firefox page and the google email page as Firefox homepages

  • See
  • To set the standard page and the email logonpage
    1. Open the two pages. The link above may help you to open the login page. The standard homepage can be opened by keying into the location bar about:homepage
    2. Close all the other tabs
    3. Use:
Firefox Menu Button {Three bar icon) -> Preference {Cog icon) ->|General| [Use current pages]

I'll read all the links. I went into the Windows Firewall and found that Firefox was unchecked and so clicked the changes button and clicked on Firefox but nothing happens. I'm sure that Firefox was previously checked and I did not uncheck it. Is this something that Windows is doing in opposition to Firefox? Why doesn't Windows allow Firefox?
