in the process of installing "malwarebytes" for additional protection, the Norton toolbar on firefox was reduced in size by the lose of my "vault " option. This prompted the reinstallation of Notion securities suite which then prevented the opening of firefox. Internet explorer works fine but I have used firefox for years so why change. Firefox now won't open (even after being uninstalled and downloaded and reinstalled. The message appears "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded , etc." Following your forum instructions, I did locate a profile file with the word "profile" imbedded. The word "profile" in the path stream is preceded by an odd name (like a foreign name). Path= "C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bzjajhor.default-1419035389504". Can and should this file be renamed?

Please help me get back to firefox. Thanks

You shouldn't rename a profile folder. It sounds that there is a problem with the profiles.ini.

See:

This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.

  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\
    C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/

You can use one of these to make Firefox create/reuse a new default profile:

  • Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
  • Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

The big guys did the trick. The final solution was the profile manager. Until I found out how to "run" firefox.exe -p on windows 8, I couldn't get the profile manager to come up. Once I figured that out, I just created a new profile (even though there were already 2 on the screen), closed down the file and started Firefox ---WaLa.

Thanks so much for the solution. I am a user and not very savy on the fix it dept. I appreciate your coming to the rescue. I can now put IE away.
