I have spent the entire weekend trying to get the Firefox beta 35 to work. What I have found is that *all* extensions fail to work with the exception of Places Maintenance. I can not download any extension Firefox is so famous for. The error is something like "cannot install 'plugin-name' in it's current state." Enabling any extension require a FF restart, even Places Maintenance. Trying to remove an extension fails and must be done manually.

I am on Windows 7 Premium desktop Firefox, 32 bit. I "committed" myself to FF 35 last night (which meant clearing history and cache on exit because the extension "Expire History by Days" was no longer working), when I discovered that 35 was not playing nice with some sites using Flash. It was a capricious thing. Many sites worked as normal but some would not render at all. Examples: http://www.wunderground.com/US/WI/La_Crosse.html

http://www.weather.com/weather/5day/l/Hustler+WI+54637:4:US

First time I have has a problem with a Firefox beta, but it is definitely not ready for prime time. I realize FF is attempting to get away from what we are calling "Proprietary add-ons" but FF 35 in its present state will just fill the Moz Support forums with millions of complaints (guess I am one of the first). I have at present 1 extension (the only one that works on 35), the above mentioned "Places Maintenance."

I thought you might like this report as "user input." God knows I have tried...I must have downloaded 35 at least a dozen times and then been forced back to 34.0.5. So I am back on 34.0.5

I have submitted a bug report here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1108196

Let me know if anyone else is having these problems or anyone needs more information. I'd love to help fix this. I know some of you good support people have probably tried 35. Are you having the same difficulties?

Below is my (34.0.5 but the same as I had on 35 last night with the exception of "Version") trouble shooting information minus a million entries for my printer:

被選擇的解決方法

Good new, friends...and thanks for holding my hand during all this. I especially needed to know if my problems were global or just me...and maybe others with certain configurations.

I am now on 35.0b2 (not sure how that happened). Anyway, I downloaded beta whatever, reset Firefox, added my cookies.sqlite and permissions.sqlite, spent a half an hour in "options", then checked things and I seem to be back in the game!

Thanks and Regards, Axis

Hello philipp--

Yes, that was one of the thousand things I tried. It did not help. Thanks for your reply.

There is never one Beta build for a version.

The Beta builds are Test builds and not Release builds. So far there is still only the 35.0b1 when there is often six to twelve Beta builds with nine being the norm in last several versions with exception of 34.0 having eleven Beta builds.

The 35.0b2 is scheduled for Tuesday Dec 8 though there is no candidate build yet. Looks like there is nine Beta builds of 35.0 for desktop scheduled.

The first few Beta builds can sometimes have some minor issues initially.

James--

Thanks or your reply. I guess I jumped the gun a little. I did manage to get what appears to be 35.0b1 on a zip drive and it seems self-contained, so that will help me watch the progress. ( I am on 35.0b1 as I write you.)

Same issues as reported above, I just tried installing the "Expire History by Days" extension but that reported a failure, then it showed up in my list of extensions anyway. Tried to remove it in the extensions GUI, but ended up having to remove it manually...even though FF "said" it was removed.

I may be impatient but I am simply trying to help and report issues.

Thanks for your reply.

I have had no discernible problems with Firefox 35.0b1 and that's with 3 different Profiles which have a varying number of extensions installed. Sorry, I don't use the two extensions that you mentioned.

If you are having a problem with specific extensions and you can "pin it" to one extension, you need to report the issue to the developer of that extension - if you can locate contact information for the developer or find a support forum for that extension. That information is in the right-column of the Add-ons download page, if the developer provided that info.

Firebug has a "community" page here - https://getfirebug.com/community

Hello the-edmeister--

I am glad that you told me you were having no problems with extensions. I needed to know if this was global or particular to me and maybe others. (in using 35 beta)

I must admit, though, now I'm worried. As I wrote initially, "What I have found is that *all* extensions fail to work with the exception of "Places Maintenance."

I only have that one extension now on both the portable 35 and the 34.05 I'm on as I reply. But that is a left over from when I (above) "committed" myself to 35 and then, the middle of the night "uncommitted" myself because of the Weather Stations and Flash issue. I used to have Firebug (but the developer tools don't require me to have Firebug anymore to view raw server headers) and used "Expire History by Days" so I could avoid my current settings of deleting both cache and history on exit. I liked to keep my browser "trim."

What concerns me more than the extension issue is Flash, me and 35.

Did you by chance click either of the links (above) to some local weather stations that use flash in (35 beta)? I would appreciate that feedback. Neither of them will render the page you are supposed to see in my case. (though in other sites flash works like it always did for me) So that's huge to me. And it is unique to me and version 35 beta.

Also, are you finding that in enabling/disabling some of your more commonly used extensions you are receiving a prompt telling you that the extension will be enabled or disabled after FF restarts. Ones that you never had to do that with before? I am.

And you are having no trouble installing and uninstalling extensions? Are you receiving "security" warnings at some sites you visit coming from FF and say FF has "limited" whatever application it is that FF is talking about. I am, on 35, but not 34.05.

I would really appreciate your answers because if not every one is experiencing something occurring only to me than I'm stuck with a problem...one I don't know how to fix. Or if only some users with certain configurations, etc.

FF 35 beta does something to me that it does not do on 34.05 that's not good.

It "feels" like my profile is locked somehow when I put it in 35 but as it always was in 34.05. I could go right now and download Firebug if I wanted to, or Expire History by Days (which was written by one of the Mozilla developers after the "hanging on exit" issue arose when "history" was handled differently several versions ago, I believe.) as long as I'm on 34.05.

the-edmeister, thank you for telling me that you are *NOT* having issues, even though that ups the difficulty level in debugging it all for myself.

I thank all who have responded here! Mozilla needs to be a "Team." Regards, Axis

Sorry, my testing a page with suspected problems relating to Flash 15.0 on 35.0b1 wouldn't help you. I use an older version of Flash on WinXP.

Does anyone know what this line from the 34.0.5 release notes means?

"Proprietary window.crypto properties/functions re-enabled (to be removed in Firefox 35)" I mean when I first updated to beta 34 I was immediately prompted to download 34.0.5 . They seemed to be released almost at the same time. And so, whatever the window.crypt properties/functions are (I read the notes and blogs and still didn't get what exactly this would mean), they apparently were removed in some version and put back in 34.0.5 and then removed again from 35.0b1.

I wonder if there is any connection with what I am reporting. I could be totally wrong.

Regards, Axis

more options

No connection to what you are reporting.

Firefox 34.0.5 was released a week later [on Dec 1st] than first planned [original schedule had it for Tues Nov 25th], so it turned out that Firefox 35.0b1 came out close to the same time. Usually there is a gap of 4 to 7 days between the new Release version coming out and the Beta channel moving to the next version number. Release first and Beta later, with Nightly and Aurora / DE in between the two.

Just for the record I'm using Fx35b1 with lots of plug-ins and extensions with absolutely no problems now or for quite a long time.

the-edmeister--

Thanks for that information. I guess I was reporting what I see in the release notes page: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/releases/

What I see is both 34 and 34.0.5 were both released Dec.1st. Thanks for your reply.

alan_r-- Again, thanks for reply. Can you view the pages in the first post I entered? Yeah, now I'm worried and thinking about completely uninstalling and reinstalling FF, keeping stored away my permissions.sqlite file and cookies.sqlite (I believe these would are the two that would maintain my cookie policy, correct?) I have my FF default set to NOT accept cookies and make exceptions for the sites I wish.

Probably, I'll wait until another beta release comes out, but this is all very strange...especially your comment alan-r.

I hate it when this happens...It is always so weird when everything works just fine on one version and falls apart in another.

Thanks again to all who have replied.

Regards, Axis

Axis - I presume you are referring to the two weather sites - they load perfectly; as does West Central Wisconsin Area. [It is quite a lot warmer where I come from.]

more options

Thanks for the feedback. Now for some good news. I did a complete re-install of the portable Firefox (which immediately upgraded me to 35.0b1) and left everything as default settings.

Then I re-inserted only permissions.sqlite file, cookies.sqlite and my bookmarks backup and started rebuilding my portable browser. Now, on Portable 35.0b1 everything is working perfectly! No problems installing and uninstalling extensions, no problem with the two weather sites, etc. (A lot of resetting things but, oh well.)

So that brings me to the problem of what to do with my 34.0.5 . Should I completely uninstall Firefox and and download beta 35.0b1 and do the same thing with my desktop version or should I just download 35.0b1 and use the "Reset Firefox" option?

I'll probably try the latter...what do you all think.

(about the weather...yep...colder and we just got hit with icy rain that now has my steep hill driveway looking like an very unsafe ice skating rink.)
