What is going on, Firefox is crashing, Freezing, and now using all my ram.
First thing, why is there no "register button" on the forums, tell your UI guys this IS confusing, not might be confusing, you have to go through this question submission to register at the forums. Been on the Web since I started hosting a BBS in 1988, I should not be confused. I should be browsing the forums right now looking for the right thread to get some help in. Wonder where this will be posted? I don't know, because this is confusing.
As I'm typing this my characters are freezing ever 15 seconds or so. Is there something wrong with the current build? I've had crashing and "not responding" problems for the last month and a half. Have removed all plugins and Add-ons (not cool at all) and then re-installed, twice if you include today. You see, since the last update, which I thought might be a bug fix, Firefox is now using most all of my ram, usually about 3.2 GB of it, no matter if there is 4 tabs or 15 (which I would NORMALLY have in my browsing, so I no there was a point where Firefox had no problem with this). That sounds like a memory leak to me. My question is: Is there something wrong with Firefox right now? Seccurity Essentials and MBAM both say I"m virus and malware free, which would make 4 years of being virus and malware free, I make an effort to browse smart, so I'm pretty sure that's not it. I'm attaching a link to a Screenshot I put in my dropbox of the threads tabs of Process Explorer, what are all these threads? Why is firefox running all these Threads at once. Is this normal? I cannot use Firefox right now, is there something wrong on my end or your end?

I have pics of the Ram usage from Resource monitor and my desktop gadget too, and it's Firefox taking 3.2 GB, every time, even though there is only 5 tabs open. -Adam

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;
Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.
Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?
Then restart.

I want to apologize for the tone of my first message, I had just pulled an all nighter at work and was in the midst of events that were leading me to a slow rage, which were all capped with a challenge to my browsing, in which I took my rage out on the world, including you guys. You guys have a community of people which do their best to help, and you guys make a great product which I get to use for free. Thank you for that. Sorry it took so long to get back here.
Now, I'm in safe mode right now with graphic acceleration turned off. I've never checked before, but I assume the flash player plugin runs in safe mode? Because it's running now, and it's using an entire GB of RAM, even though there is no video running. This may be our (or MY) problem.
I have 7 tabs open inlcuding this one and FireFox is holding on to about 400 MBs of that, which i don't think is way out of the norm.
60 seconds later now, and Flash Player plugin is allocating 1.2GB for itself, I'm having trouble (a 2 to 4 second latency) switching between tabs and the cursor I'm typing with is freezing every 10 seconds or so. Have not got a "Not Responding" yet, but these are the symptoms that usually precede that.
I don't have anything open that FlashPlayer should need resources for, there are not vids open and only one of the tabs has an embedded vid that I have not started or clicked on.
I have gone through great lengths to keep this ONE machine running stable and secure all the time, as I use it for a music editing and engineering workstation. Should I wait to here back from you guys before re-installing Flash Player? I would like to help you guys figure this out if I can. Can you tell if it's just on my end, or have I run into an unreported FireFox bug.
Flash player now holds 1.6 GB of system ram. WOW, I'm at 60 degrees C right now (usually ONLY when playing some tough to run games) and using 30% of my FX-6100 6 cores running at 3.6GHz. Something is wrong, very, very wrong. STill in safe mode with acceleration turned off.

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:
- see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

Hey thanks for the links, especially that flash blocker. To be clear though, that happened when I tested it in safe mode with hardware acceleration off, the first time, when I sent you the memory report, it was FireFox holding all the RAM, 3.2GB of it, and it was Firefox that had all those open threads going. That with only 5 tabs open.
I'll keep trying to mess with it and capture screens of various monitoring programs when it gets out of hand, been using Chrome more lately. My main concern was that it was not Malware, and it appears it was not. If you have any feedback on the contrary, or have a clue what it might be or what I might be doing wrong, let me know.

I'm limited here technically, but I'm going to try to dig around and see if it's one of the plugins leaking memory, this thread seems to describe my problem well, and it looks like I'm not alone.

I'd advise giving those links to anyone who has similar problems to my first problem, the FireFox Ram consumption problem, they will find it helpful I think. I'd bet my next paycheck it's a problem with a common plugin.
Wish I could nail down the exact circumstances when it's bad, now I wish I took more screens with the date and time on them. I'll get back to you if I figure anything out.

Type about:addons<Enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>)<Shift> A)
In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Plugins. Change all of them to Never, then Restart Firefox.
Is the problem gone? Repeat the above but enable ONE plugin. Restart Firefox. Continue until the problem returns.
