We can't connect to Outlook - this is NOT an isolated problem!!

At the last count, 49 other people had this problem, and it hasn't been addressed properly. There were 16 other newly affected entries when I last looked. Firefox insists that the hotmail website is not a trusted connection, that is does not have a secure certificate, and (probably) as a result boots me out after a couple of minutes so I receive an error message "we can't conenct to outlook, please try later" I've tried adding an exception to the Firefox certificates, but am unable to do so, since it deletes the entry after I shut down the system (it will only do it on a "temporary" basis). Why should this happen now? I've used hotmail for years without problem.

被選擇的解決方法

Phillipp - I've tried a new profile "default user" which seems to do the trick. - hooray. I left hotmail open for an hour, and since the problem first arose, Firefox has allowed only around 5 minutes before deciding that miscrosoft is an evil site and refusing to connect to outlook. (as you know, claiming that the site certificate is invalid) Now I need to migrate all my cherished bookmarks without deleting them in error, I assume I copy FROM the old profile and paste TO the new profile! And then see whether I've imported the error or not from the bookmarks. Hopefully not. I can then customize all the other settings from the new profile without importing any other files, and that therefore may be the problem sorted. Why a new profile should make any difference I haven't the faintest, but presumably you must have had an inkling , by virtue of suggesting it. But thanks for all your help.

hello, first please make sure that the date, time & timezone are set correctly on your system. if this doesn't solve the issue (or it is already set properly), a possible solution depends on different factors:

  • what is the error code shown under technical details on the error page?

in case the error code equals sec_error_unknown_issuer, please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions) an tell us:

  • which issuer information does the certificate contain?

thank you!

"This Connection is Untrusted" error message appears - What to do

the issuer information is dub128.mail.live.com and it is indeed a sec_error_unknown_issuer. I have tried to add an exception to the security certificates but as per my original posting, Firefox will not allow me to do so (only temporary, and deletes it on closure). The date time and time zone data are correct.

thanks for reporting back - please don't add an exception for real but just use this procedure to inspect the issuer information of the failing certificate like shown in the screenshot above. when you do so, who is the issuer for dub128.mail.live.com?

thanks, this information does look as it's supposed to be. does it make a difference when you access outlook through this link though?: https://mail.live.com

This Connection is Untrusted

You have asked Firefox to connect securely to dub128.mail.live.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.

Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?

If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.

dub128.mail.live.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided. (Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)

how is it behavin when you create a new profile for testing purposes?: Profile Manager - Create, remove, or switch Firefox profiles

thanks - I have reset firefox rather than creating a new profile as that seemed to be the simpler first step. I am going to bed now and will review tomorrow, thanks for all your help meantime. I did try the idea of going to mail.live.com, but microsoft diverts it to onto the dub128 when I log in, so nothing gained there. Still, the reset might work......
