Running Aurora & Beta at the same time?

I have the option enabled in Auroa, and AFAICT I've successfully created 2 separate profiles for both. But when I try to launch one when the other's already open, I get a message that I can't do that. What gives?

In the last few yrs I've mainly used FF beta, but tonight I decided I'd start to use Aurora a bit more heavily, perhaps even make it my primary browser, *if* I'm happy with it after regular casual use.

Many a yore ago I used FF nightly very heavily/regularly...

I've also got both profiles syncing via moz sync, only thing I'm not syncing is passwords, is syncing a Auroa profile w.a Beta one a recipe for problems down-the-track?

TY.

Hello jalyst, the ultimate solution for your problem is in the-edmeister's reply.

thank you

Actually, think I'll go all the way down to nightly now... I'll stick with beta as my primary, but want to use nightly occasionally to see what’s coming to beta long before it gets there, & get a feel for it etc.

1) Thoughts?

2) I imagine it's an even worse idea syncing nightly<-->beta profiles?

3) 2 sep. profile for each is recommended no doubt, but is it possible to launch/use both simultaneously?

TL;DR: Yes you can run multiple Firefox channels. (Ex. Nightly and Beta)

Aurora - http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora/ Nightly - http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-trunk/ Just un-Zip the contents into a new folder that you create. Then right-click the firefox.exe file and select Send To > Desktop(create shortcut)

1. Usually there are no issues for me when using various releases of Firefox. I use Nightly, Beta, and Release with no problems simultaneously.

2. If you are syncing your Beta stuff over to other Firefox versions (Aurora, Nightly, etc), you can do the same with Nightly. I'm assuming you're using Firefox Sync for this. You can plug in your username/password the same way you've been doing.

3. Yes, it's possible. As ideato suggested, Ed's post at http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=2821799 will explain it in much more detail.

How do I tell MozSync that my beta profile is the "master" profile?

I just had a bunch of bookmarks re-organised/added (& possibly deleted) due to my alpha profile having it's bookmarks status propagated via MozSync to my beta profile.

Now I'm afraid of launching the alpha FF again, as I've just cleaned-up the bookmarks mess that was created (well, most of it I hope).

God knows what other out-of-date data has been propagated back to my beta profile. I'll address the most recent posts/responses later, thanks everyone.

Google searches (just notes to myself): https://www.google.com/search?q=synchronise+two+firefox+profiles%2C+one+nightly+%26+one+beta https://www.google.com/search?q=manage+profiles%2C+firefox
