There is no help button on the updated firefox when I finally got it to work at all. How do I get my settings from the desktop folder "old firefox data/"

more options

I can't find a help button when I click on the 3 lines. When Firefox updated this morning, it wouldn't go on line at all. Now I have it running again, and my data is saved on my desktop in a folder called Old Firefox data. I don't know how to find "profiles" and I don't know how to reload my data. I seem to have my correct taskbar. I don't have my complete list of search engines. My bookmarks seem to be there. My download record is not.

Glad to help. Unfortunately the Help button is smaller than all of the other icons, and there are no settings to enlarge it.

Occasionally Flash does have issues, but usually updating it is the safer route as they usually contain important security patches or performance updates. One thing I should mention is that the download link almost always contains an Optional offer for the McAfee toolbar - you don't need to install Flash so if you do not want it, you will need to uncheck that checkbox in the middle of the page.

If you have a problem in Firefox due to Flash feel free create a new thread, we'll be happy to help.

Hello,

You can access the Troubleshooting Information page by entering about:support into the address bar, or by going to:

  • Help (or New Fx Menu > Help-29) > Troubleshooting Information

Please see the article Recovering important data from an old profile for more information on the individual files that you are transferring over to your new profile.

Since there is not help button, it is useless to tell me how to get to it!!!

If you cannot access the help button, you should still be able to enter about:support into your address bar. The button Show Folder in that page will open a Windows Explorer window with your profile directory.

If you still cannot access that page, you can access the folder where profiles are stored in by entering the following in Windows Explorer:

  • %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

I have done that. How do I put the "help" button back? My other things I have put back individually without resorting to "profiles."

Its strange that it is missing, it is supposed to be placed at the bottom of the three bar menu in between Customize and the Exit button.

If you are able to see the Customize button after clicking the three bar menu, please click it to get to the customization page. Otherwise, enter about:customizing to enter the customization page. Try the "Restore Defaults" button which should reset all the buttons to the default, or you can bring back the menu bar with "Show/Hide Toolbars" > Menu Bar.

If for some reason interface tools are still missing, can you provide us with a screenshot for the three bar menu? If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

Unrelated issue: I also notice that you are using an older version of Flash. You can update to the latest one here in order to take advantage of the latest security and performance updates:

Thank you!

Thank you. At one time the question mark was larger, I think. I didn't realize it would be so small and so low. I feel silly now. You have been a big help. Once upon a time I messed up my computer downloading an update to Flash. Since you recommend it, I will do so now.

As an aside, I am a person who does better with print that graphics, and I like having the word "help" on the tool bar.

Thanks again.

Hi susamike, you may have discovered this by now, but you can still use the "classic" menu bar. It's on the toolbar list with the Bookmarks Toolbar and any add-on toolbars. You can access that using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the tab bar, or the "+" button on the tab bar
  • "3-bar" menu button > Customize > Show/Hide Toolbars
  • tap the Alt key to display the classic menu bar temporarily, then View > Toolbars

Hi Janice23, did you see this Knowledge Base article: How to make the new Firefox look like the old Firefox.

Hi Janice23, since this thread already is marked "solved" would you mind starting a new question? You can use this link:

https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new/desktop/fix-problems

If the suggestions provided by that and subsequent pages are not helpful, keep scrolling down to continue entering your question.

During the process, the site will ask to access your add-on and other configuration information. Please include that so we can see what is currently installed on your Firefox.

Also, if you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on your desktop, please take a look inside at whether there are recently updated files in there, or only older files that probably won't be so helpful.

Thanks.
