You can "kill" the stalled Firefox process using the Windows Task Manager.

Ctrl+Shift+Esc should pop it up.

Check the Applications tab first, and if you find Firefox there select it and click End Task.

If it wasn't there, try the Processes tab and look for firefox.exe and select it and click End Process.

Then Firefox should be able to start up without finding itself in memory.

But please check this article for potential issues: Fix problems connecting to websites after updating Firefox.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) see if that helps.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

What is the current status? It seems from your description that you were not able to uninstall Firefox and you were not able to reinstall Firefox. So you have Firefox installed, it was working before, but now it isn't working correctly.

Is that right? What exactly isn't working?

Could you try starting Firefox in its Safe Mode by holding down the Shift key when starting Firefox? A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

Did you delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer. Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

There's also a general support article that might have some additional tips: Firefox and other browsers can't load websites.
