Error box "Thunderbird failed to find the settings for your email account"

Though I was successful at getting Yahoo to install- I could NOT get my tuta mail account nor my Zoho mail account to install and run. I don't understand why- any solution posted on AI are too technical for me to understand and invest soo much time to try and figure out. Can I please get some help to activate my accounts here ? Send Message Error "Sending of mmessage failed. An error occured while sending mail: Outgoing server SMTP error. The server responded [192.1680.166] Helo command rejected: IP address 204.237.106.179 Blocked due to Abusive Authentication Behavior."

Problem recently developed. So far on 2 different addresses but could be more. Additional info, hotmail and gmail accounts sending work OK; xplornet.com account is the problem interface but the C/Svc folks say it's a Thunderbird mail issue.

Attempting to install Thunderbird on an additional desktop using same address as my original computer has. But when I attempt to install on computer #2, Thunderbird doesn't recognize my email or password from computer #1.

Is Thunderbird not compatible with Earthlink email? I can't seem to get my account added. All of the information is directly from my earthlink account set up information but I just get messages saying the configuration is wrong or password etc. I have checked and rechecked, reset the password multiple times so it is definitely the right password yet it fails to connect. if it simply can't be added I get it and will move on but I have no issue setting it up to other accounts so I just want to be sure I am doing it right and that it is in fact compatible. thanks for any help.

well installed Thunderbird on UBUNTU 24.04 LTS doesn't start beyond choice of new profile and selection of old data file from a former UBUNTU installation (UBUNTU 25.10 ) I retrofitted to current UBUNTU 24.04 LTS , thus more stable

I have been using T-bird for years successfully until lately. We have multiple email addresses in Comcast and Gmail, but lately our passwords that we have been using and know are correct because they are written on paper and Keypass, are being changed somehow so that they will no longer work. When we look at the saved passwords in Thunderbird we see some have been changed on a certain date that we did not do, and the password listed now must be about 200 characters long. Then when we go to change the password, it may be listed as changed. Then when we try to send a message with that email address, we get an error message saying, for example, smtp.googlemail.com and a wrong username/address completely. I can find no way to correct the username email in any settings in Thunderbird. I have searched the Thunderbird HELP files many times, but am unable to find any of this addressed anywhere. After trying to fix these problems for most of 3 days now, I have get rid of Thunderbird for an email client that works correctly!!!

Many of my emails received are auto marked/shown as having been read. This means I never know which of my many emails received are new and which I have already read. Particularly annoying as I have a number of aliases and a number of folders to put them in. I am actively considering going back to MS Outlook, which would be regressive.

Hi, I use thunderbird as both POP and IMAP through gmail. I keep all my emails on my POP thunderbird desktop client. I use IMAP on my thunderbird laptop client, iPhone, iPad via Apple mail when remote, then download the emails to my desktop.

What I want to do is read emails and set them to archive on my IMA laptop, iPhone, iPad. I know Gmail tags the archived emails. How do I stop thunderbird from downloading the archived emails to my POP thunderbird desktop client?

I had TB on my desktop for years and finally got it also synced to my phone. Then with a failure with Windows 11 had to wipe clean the desktop and start over. Cannot reinstall TB. I obviously have the correct e-mail and password as I was able to log into Mozilla and submit this question. I believe it is a problem with my user name and what is on my phone setup does not work with my desktop reinstallation.

Search in Thunderbird has never worked reliably for me. I've deleted and rebuilt GloDa, and am now monitoring indexing progress in the Activity Manager.

After recently enabling indexing for a couple of additional folders, every time I start Thunderbird it seems to index a few emails (maybe 20 or 30 or so) then hangs, and the indexing progress stops.

My total number of messages in my entire Thunderbird profile, across every folder in all of the few email addresses I have, is a couple of thousand emails. We're not talking anything crazy here.

There are gigabytes of RAM available and hundreds of gigaabytes of free storage space on the local volume.

Any ideas?

Ever since the latest update, when I hit send for an email. It says it cannot send, I cancel, hit send again and it goes through. I have to try sending EVERY email twice.

I've been running TB for 10-12 years, generally with no problems. When I logged in on 5/13/26, I saw that Windows had run an overnight update:

    2026-05 Security Update (KB5089549) (26200.8457)

Thunderbird (version 147.0.2.0) was not running, although it had been when I slept the PC the previous night.

Now, when I try to start TB it gives me the crash report dialog. Selecting the Restart option just brings me back to the crash report.

In searching for possible causes, I see that this may be caused by a bad profile. So I open the profile folder with (run) %APPDATA%\Thunderbird\Profiles\ which in my case is:

  C:\Users\<user_name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

This is an empty directory. But if I go up one level to \Thunderbird there is a profile.ini file which contains (actual user ID replaced by <user_ID>:

[Install8216C80C92C4E828] Default=E:\Thunderbird\Profiles

[Profile0] Name=<user_ID> IsRelative=0 Path=E:\Thunderbird\Profiles Default=1

"E:\Thunderbird\" is the correct location of my TB installation. In that directory is a profile.ini file that contains:

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/<user_ID>.default

Directory "E:\Thunderbird\Profiles\<user_ID>.default" is present. But all of it's files are dated 2010 except Mail, dated 2016.

Directory "E:\Thunderbird\Profiles" contains the ImapMail and Mail sub directories totaling about 25GB data.

I don't know what the Thunderbird startup process is or if this all looks correct. Can someone give me a sanity check? If this looks normal, what else could be corrupted?

I have been unable to send emails for several weeks and keep getting the following error message: sending of message failed The message could not be sent because connecting to the outgoing server (SMTP)smtp.1und1.de failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again.

My settings have not been changed so I am wondering what has changed and how i can correct it. My computer knowledge and ability is very limited so please bear theis in mind when offering advice and solutions. Thank you.

Every time I log in and then every so often afterwards I get the pop up - you are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site- for a now deleted mail.co.uk account. I have tried all the fixes suggested by Google but it still keeps happening and is driving me mad. It tells me the certificate is outdated or invalid and asks to confirm to permanently store the exception but just keeps coming back every time I click on confirm, it only goes away if I click cancel but then keeps coming abck.

I'm a longtime Thunderbird user. Today, it stopped working to send messages. (I can still receive messages OK.) When I try to send, it does the spell-check, but then doesn't do anything. I have new e-mails from some company. I can search for the company and the e-mails show up (as recently as today) but in the list I only see e-mails as recent as 35 days ago. I see TB periodically download new messages but they don't show in the list. I have searched all over for a solution and nothing has worked. I have no Message Filters and I have no Quick Filters active. I have tried both repairing and compacting the Inbox. Does anyone have anything else I can try?

I would appreciate detailed instructions on how to transfer emails currently in my "roundcube" email account to my mozilla thunderbird emal account (I would like to have my old emails transported to the mozilla account).

When I got into the "Show Passwords" in "Saved Passwords in "Privacy & Security", I had to click "Remove All" in "Show Passwords" to delete it, and now it turns off the "Show Passwords" in the "Saved Passwords" section, and now the OAuth2 is missing.
