Thunderbird auto updating to 102 even after putting all hacks in to NOT update

Have used Thunderbird for years, decades even, on multiple PC's, family and friends, and home PC's. Even donated a few times over those years but this one has me stumped and honestly a bit miffed.

I got 102 update and it completely broke my 2 POP and 1 IMAP accounts. New Passwords, cleared files, all the business you find here and online. Saw someone revert back to v91 which I had prior. Did that, worked like a charm and the prior existing accounts that did NOT work; started working again instantly. Proves I had the right accounts/passwords.

Next day, launch TB and it's updated again to 102; hmm. Downgrade again a second time on 2 PC's and go my business. It's now been 4 days and I've put registry keys in, used Config Editor and did all the "do not auto update" things I've read and still, today after a long and wicked day; I find starting TB it's yet again auto updated to 102.

Help please? I'm an IT guy of over 30 years and this one has me stumped and doing side-eye and I don't like it. Is there an honest and true way to NOT UPDATE to 102? Sorry, upset and have never had an issue *ever* with TB these years but this one is quite annoying downgrading daily.

I just got a new Windows 11 laptop. I installed TB 102.1.2 on it. I deleted the contents of the new profile that it created and then copied the contents of the old profile into the new one. All seems fine and all my accounts and local folders are there and working fine. I use IMAP.

The problem is that when I start TB sometimes I get an error saying "Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. The old Thunderbird process must be closed to open a new window.". The problem is that there is no Thunderbird running already.

I read through some other posts here and found out about parent.lock. I deleted this and TB started up next time without the error. However when I closed TB and restarted it, I got the error again. This same scenario will result in the error message every time.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling TB, but I still get the same error.

I tried creating a new profile and again copying over the contents of my old profile. I still get the error.

I saw some references to antivirus programs potentially being a problem. I closed my AV program and tried again, but I still got the same error.

I am running the same version of TB on several Windows 10 computers and don't have any problems.

Any ideas on what else I could try?

I have recently switched from MS Outlook to Thunderbird/Lightning. So far, reasonably so good. One thing that continues to frustrate me is an issue with calendar reminder popups. I thought I was not getting them, but now I think I'm getting them but they disappear. Some research suggests that it may have already been reported that reminder popups will disappear once Thunderbird checks for new mail, and what I'd vastly prefer is for a calendar reminder popup to stay, well, popped-up until I dismiss it.

Am I missing something? Maybe a setting somewhere? Or is this a known issue that has yet to be solved?

I did have a massive problem when I imported my Outlook calendar in that I got reminder popups for every calendar entry back to the dawn of time, and which would NOT dismiss no matter how many times I tried, so I enabled the setting to not remind me about past events.

It seems as if I may have to choose between two unacceptable options: either re-enable reminders for past events, so that when Thunderbird checks for mail any undismissed reminder popups will remain (or re-popup), or live with the reminder popups disappearing (and, the whole reason I'm writing this, I'll miss calendar events if I don't happen to be glued to my computer for the 30 minutes the popup will exist). Is there not some other option?

I would like to open a tab where I can display all my important and starred emails for quick access. I don't mean opening a completely new window. Just one Thunderbird client open, while being able to open tabs which can be different categories.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Am on new PC now running Windows 11 and struggling. My program set-up was done by a professional IT so I'm sure Mozilla/Thunderbird was moved correctly. Started using Thunderbird Friday afternoon with no problems. I get about 150 emails daily to my main address + a few to 2 other addresses. All addresses have this same problem. For years now on Thunderbird with Win 10 and now 11, once I OPEN an email, the listing changes from BOLD to normal print. Believe that's common for email programs. Since just prior to 3 PM yesterday, ALL incoming Emails are still in BOLD after being opened whether replied to or not. Makes it VERY hard to know which ones I need to go back to and read further. I do tags but only for really important things. Does anyone know what might have happened? I have NOT tried to change any settings in Thunderbird. Help please!!!!

I am trying to use one of my Thunderbird email accounts as the one that sends authentication emails to new website registrants. Below is the function being trialed for this but with a Gmail account. Using a Gmail account for this purpose is no longer possible as accessing one's Gmail via a third-party program is not allowed since June 2022. My biggest problem is what entry I should apply for my mail service when: 1) Testing the web app locally and using Thunderbird as the "sender" of confirmation emails; and 2) Testing the app on the web server where I propose to use one of the website owner's email accounts for this task.

Where did the Panacea.dat file go--seems to be missing/moved since the last update. I used to be able to keep the email send to list reasonable by deleting this file and it automatically recreated the next time I opened Thunderbird. Now the file is not there.. The path I used to follow was Windows (C:)\Users\my name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\tx6pmhuc.default\panacea.dat (43KB) Yes, TB is closed and I have hidden files open to see.

One way this would work is to right click the mouse when pointing at the email, and have one of the context menu choices be 'junk'. I'm surprised it's not there. Am I missing something??

Hi TB supporters,

Running MacOS Catalina (10.15) with TB102 setup as IMAP. When I add a column or change their left to right sequence or change which columns are displayed -- any such changes to the Inbox or any other mailbox -- the changes disappear after going to another mailbox and then returning to the mailbox that was changed.

For example, with Inbox selected, clicked the "Select columns to display" button and added Recipient by checking it in the dropdown list. As expected, Recipient immediately appeared in the Inbox window. Then I switched from Inbox to Sent mailbox. Upon switching back to Inbox, the Recipient column was momentarily present, but a second later the window self-refreshed and Recipient disappeared. At this point the "Select columns" dropdown showed Recipient to be unchecked.

This is a brand new install and setup of TB on a brand new internal drive partition on a 2012 Macbook Pro.

Maybe there is a Config I can modify? Can anyone replicate this issue? All suggestions appreciated.

My instance of tbird makes a little chirp sound every hour. I cannot figure out why. It is the same sound I hear if a reminder notification is raised. The timing of the chirp is one hour from whenever tbird was launched. There is nothing I see listed in the calendar that could cause it. Can someone tell me where to check to figure out what this is about and get rid of the chirp?
