I got a new HP laptop with the Windows 11 operating system 2 weeks ago, downloaded and set up T-bird. I am able to receive emails but cannot send them. I have worked with my ISP to be sure that I have the correct settings for the SMTP server and it still will not complete the sending process. They say that the problem is not theirs as I have the proper settings, receive emails and can send and receive emails with their webmail client.

When sending there is an exceptionally long time with the sending progress window showing activity and then I get a Sending message failed pop up.

I first loaded the then current version of T-Bird on the new laptop and then reloaded it several days later to no avail. Today I downloaded the new version of T-Bird 102.0 hoping for a resolution, but no success.

What do I need to do to get full functionality from T-Bird?

Hey guys! I'm coming back to Thunderbird after a long time cause I really like the look of 102. I'm trying to setup my email accounts and I keep getting an error asking me to Add Security Exception. When I confirm it, it just pops back up again immediately. It's happening for both my Gmail and Microsoft 365 accounts. I've tried totally disabling Windows Security and following the guides about Gmail and Thunderbird and nothing has worked. Any suggestions?

Is there a way to bulk delete only unread messages, leaving only messages I've actually read in place? I've been using thunderbird for many years and have many many thousands of messages, most of which are unread because I chose to ignore them. Is there a way to kill them all without losing the messages I have read? I can select ALL or none. Is there a way to select only unread messages for deletion?

Thunderbird keeps asking for address book password everytime I open thunderbird. I have selected to "save password in password manager" but it won't save it. It works after I enter it, properly syncs my address book, but it's frustrating when to have to copy from my lastpass every time I open it.

I have looked in preferences in saved passwords and it is not there. My imap, smtp and caldav logins are there, but no carddav password. Nothing else asks for password, just carddav.

Using: - Windows 10 Pro 21H1 - Thunderbird 91.11.0 x64 - CardDAV server is hosted by zoho (https://contacts.zoho.com)

I continually get prompted to enter my password (saved on Thunderbird). When I do enter it, I get the exact same prompt. The work around that is successful 80% of the time is to log into https://accounts.google.com/signin/v2/identifier?passive=1209600&continue=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FDisplayUnlockCaptcha&followup=https%3A%2F%2Faccounts.google.com%2FDisplayUnlockCaptcha&flowName=GlifWebSignIn&flowEntry=ServiceLogin -- which allows me to unblock Thunderbird. When that doesn't work, I have to open my browser and log directly into gmail, using the same password. The peculiar part is that, throughout all this, I seem to be receiving e-mails normally. This only happens on sending (or when my VPN is engaged, but that's a whole 'nuther ball of dung). The other strange bit is after it starts working, it works fine for a few days, sometimes weeks, then I have to go through all this again, so I know my settings are right.

My old Windows 7 PC laptop died. I used Thunderbird with a personal profile gmail address I will call Profile 1, and another email address I created from my online website that no longer exists, and I will call it Profile 2. I'm now running Windows 11 on a new PC. I downloaded a new Thunderbird program on the new PC. I attached the old Win 7 hard drive to the new PC and used Mozbackup to restore my old profile using my previous .pcv file backup. Profile 1 restored, but with emails only back to 2017. Profile 2 was not restored at all. Please help. Thank you.

Turned on my computer this am and went to get my email and got this warning:

Sending of password for user johnshunt did not succeed. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: Authentication failed.

Nothing is different with my computer and I can see my email on the comcast website but cannot get it to my Thunderbird program where all my history and folders allow me to use the program as I need it.

In the first week of June, I began getting messages that Sending of Password did not succeed and login failed. I am now trying to get back in business. I downloaded the latest Thunderbird, and the window shows my 3 gmail accounts and some inbox messages I had retained in the in box.

I look at my "account settings" and I see NO "authentication method" menu item I see "server settings" "copies & folders" "composition & addressing" "junk settings" "disk space" "end-to-end-encryption" "return receipts" but, alas, no "authentication methods"

I was able to check cookies and javascript and those both look good.

How can I get Thunderbird to work with gmail again? Thnx

The certificate on our in-house hosted Exchange server was updated and now the Thunderbird users can't send emails. Appleail users and iPhone and Android email clients can send mail. The Thunderbird users can receive mail, but when sending, we get the message "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail: Unable to establish a secure link with Outgoing server (SMTP) post.samuels.org using STARTTLS since it doesn't advertise that feature. Switch off STARTTLS for that server or contact your service provider." We have tried deleting the certificate and rebooting and then adding the new certificate. We have tried setting the security to SSL/TSL and none, but still couldn't get emails to send. Our IT contractors tried a lot more things.

I use Mac 10.15.7. I want to upgrade Thunderbird from 78.14.0 to 91.11.0. I tried upgrading in the fall and had a lot of problems with address books, but I want to try again. I have a lot of address books. In case I have to re-import the contacts to the individual address books, what is the best way to export each address book from 78.14 so that 91.11 will accept it when I import it back in? The options are comma sep, tab delim, vcard, and ldif. Thank you.

Hi, I've had two different gmail accounts for many years, and both are being accessed via Thunderbird. Both are set up to work with OAuth2, and I have OAuth2 settings in Outgoing Server settings. I've been able to receive and send emails with both accounts until this morning.

Starting this morning, every time I try to send an email from one of the accounts (the one starting with 'ce'), it changes the 'sender' to my other gmail account (the one starting with 'mc'). This is causing any emails sent to email lists where I'm registered with the 'ce' account to reject my emails, because the sender shows up as the 'mc' account.

I've tested the effect by using the gmail web access page (Chrome, Win7) and sending emails to an email address with a different provider, and the sender field does not get changed.

Any ideas on how to cure this problem?

I have two email accounts prosper@melonyyoung.com and melonyyoung@live.com. The first was originally thru GoDaddy but was since farmed out to Microsoft. The second always Microsoft. Recently I get an email to "update your settings to keep your email client working" which I did. Now I cannot get these accounts to SEND. I can send thru web Office365 email, but all of my emails are at Thunderbird where I want to keep them.

I have checked, rechecked, changed . . changed . . changed . . . all server settings back and forth probably 50+ times and to no avail.  I'm no email newbie and I can follow straight forward directions.  I've even deleted account and added again . . . still same issue. 

My prosper@melonyyoung.com is now working, but the melonyyoung@live.com is not -- keeps trying to login to Microsoft, but will not allow me to go any further, doesn't recognize the email. Please help. This has just started and I've worked steadily to resolve on my own. I did get Microsoft assistant to remote access my computer and THEY could not fix it.

I am not going to ask for help here -- not again. I have been trying for a year or longer to find out what is causing Thunderbird to display "Not Responding" message every time I direct it to download new messages. It pops up a dozen or more times during every download session. Usually takes about 15 minutes for Thunderbird to download messages. On the other hand I have Outlook 365 installed which I have to pay annually for and when it opens and I direct it to download the same new email messages, it takes Outlook 365 about 30 seconds to do what Thunderbird is taking 15 minutes to do.

      I have looked at  "every"  internet posting on dozens and dozens of different websites about correcting Thunderbird errors.   I have un-installed Thunderbird and re-installed.  I have uninstalled Firefox browser and tried using Thunderbird while only MS Edge in installed -- still "not responding" issues.    Re-installed Firefox and it does not help.    Terminated my antivirus programs and tried to use Thunderbird -  "Not Responding" still.    Change antivirus setting to not ever look at Thunderbird and that makes no difference.   Tried uninstalling some other programs to see if it helps.   Turned off the  automatic "Compound Folders".   Nothing ever does help -- get the idea!!!    The one thing I have not done is to open in "SAFE MODE" and seeing what happens.   I think the Thunderbird support says something like in safe mode to uninstall every program you have one at a time -- reboot in between each uninstall -- then reboot and see if Thunderbird is still "Not Responding".   I do not need to go through those long hours of time to try that method as I see from MANY user postings that they have tried that and Thunderbird STILL displays "Not Responding" to them.     
     The Thunderbird splash screen asks for SUPPORT and DONATIONS to help then keep Thunderbird running --but I have donated many times over past years to Thunderbird and Mozilla.   I just cannot see sending money in that direction any longer as the "NOT RESPONDING" issue is serious and it is happening to thousands of Thunderbird users and this has been going on for years based on the assorted dates I see on User Postings.    This cannot go on for users anymore.   I will not bother posting to Thunderbird Forum any longer, nor will I scour the internet for solutions to this problem.     I will soon delete my Thunderbird program from all my computers and stick to MS Outlook 365 since it is working flawlessly.   
     I only hope the Thunderbird computer tech people find some way of resolving this OLD issue before everyone is forced to delete Thunderbird and stop all Donations to support.    Thunderbird used to be a really GREAT PROGRAM.   Maybe taking it out from under Mozilla support was a mistake as things are not going to well anymore.

Hello.

I am running an old version of Windows 10 Pro, build 1511, for compatibility with an old program that will not run on anything newer.

When I install Thunderbird 102, there are 2 initial problems:

- It is stuck to the left side of my display and I cannot resize it. See attached image. - The top is messed up. There is an old-style pale blue top bar with window controls overlayed by a transparent bar with windows controls and tabs that sometimes turns pale grey. See 2nd attached image.

I did previously have Thunderbird 2.0.0.24 installed, but wanted to update for IMAP etc. so the first thing I did was upgrade. After I experienced these issues I completely uninstalled 2.0.0.24, cleaned out the folders, registry etc., rebooted and installed 102 from scratch, but the issues are still there.

How can I resolve these issues?
