For example, On a particular software, only the version 7 of firefox is marked as "certified" and I need this specific version for support reason.

I've found this website : http://www.oldapps.com/firefox.php but I would prefer downloading the file from mozilla servers for legal reason, and the only version available is 3.6.28 here :

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

(I've tryed to change the version in the download url without luck ;))

Any idea where I can get older version from mozilla servers? Thanks.

Note: downgrading to an older version of Firefox is NOT Supporter, nor is it recommended. There are Major Security holes in older versions that can comprise the integrity of your personal information and your system. I suggest that if Firefox works fine with your software (I'm assuming their support team is helping you with something and wants you to try Firefox 7), i would install 7, test it, if you can upgrade to Firefox 12 and your software still works do that ASAP.

[ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/ ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/] is the Official Firefox archive.

Well, the big problem with the new version model is that you get so much versions in a year that application that depends on it just can't follow.

In product documentation we need to say that Our product is certified with version X of this browser.

Major version change should imply major changes... and I feel now it's not the case, it's just to compete with Chrome version model...

So now we say : certified with version X, compatible but no support with version Y (>X)

If you are producing software how do you detect the Firefox version and show whether or not it is compatible ? You may be interested in http://hacks.mozilla.org/2012/01/firefox-goes-2-digit-time-to-check-your-ua-sniffing-scripts/

If you are, or your clients are in a corporate environment there is a possibility that Firefox ESR will be in use.

My understanding is that ESR has been brought out primarily to deal with this sort of problem ensuring software may be certified in an enterprise, and does not change as often (so it will remain as Firefox 10 with point releases for a while).

Hi John,

Browser version are correctly detected (if you don't use a certified version, you get a warning you have to confirm to be able to access the procduct), however, I don't know which technology is used.
I'm an architect in a big software company, and I was seting up a VMWare image with our products to make some demo that could be shared with clients & partners.

Usually the browser is installed on the server itself (and the server do not have access to internet) or they use their own browser (which is still in too many big company IE6... ) or firefox.

I've never seen or heard of Firefox ESR before, good to know, I'll spread the word ;) In bank, it's often a portable version which is used, not officialy (but it's more and more packaged and deployed)

Regards, Djannakhan.
