All of a sudden my volumn and battery indicators have disappeared in the lower right hand corner of my screen.

When I go to control panel/appearance/taskbar and start menu properties/notification area -----the volume and power options are grayed out. AND I have no power or battery system icons in the taskbar.
How can I fix this. I do not recall doing anything to make those two icons go away!
