No icon appeared after download. How do I move Firefox to Applications, then to desk? I know nothing.

I would like to use Firefox for my browser on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded Firefox 3.6. The directions said to wait until I was prompted to move the icon to the Applications folder. No prompt. When searched, Applications shows that Firefox is there. My skills are rudimentary. Now what? How do I get the Firefox icon on my desk so that I can use it for my browser?
