Soccer stuff added WHEN I SAID NO

My Dude

I decided to switch back to "mainline". Opened Firefox after a while. Got a prompt to change my new tab wallpaper, I said no.

Closed and reopened Firefox. Then my new tab page was besmirched with "soccer" score nonsense.

What hidden/non-obvious setting do I need to change to have ALL of this and ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY LIKE IT off FOREVER? I will never EVER want ANY suggestions for ANYTHING for the rest of time. I turned everything I could think of, including the labs or whatever off but this still came up.

Hi there, I believe you're talking about the world cup widget. You can disable your widgets by toggling them off - more information here: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/customize-items-on-firefox-new-tab-page

Sorry if this comes off crass, it's not you directly as I don't think YOU are making these decisions Konstantina. I'm just frustrated that anyone thought "hey this guy has EVERYTHING off his homepage, let's spam it!" I literally could not care one bit about ANY sport, let alone "non-US football".

So, the answer from Mozilla staff is "turn it off even though you already had it off (last line says as much)"? You gave us a universal OFF for ai, why not for stuff like this, Red Panda, and all that? Actually, wasn't "labs" supposed to be the universal "off" when you apologized for the Mr Robot Looking Glass thing?

If there's no universal "turn all this stuff OFF for the rest of time" setting, can you just tell me? It'll save time so I can go back to a fork. Funny that they ALL know EXACTLY which of this stuff to yank. But I do wish it wasn't splitting the FF userbase.

Hi,

First, let me say that I share your feelings. Unfortunately, the New Tab lives in a kind of separate world, and as of now, there's no setting to prevent such updates. That said, I can also see their genuine intent to showcase stuff they've been working on: if the widgets were disabled by default, a very small number of users would've checked them out.

There is actually a way to make sure your feedback is heard: post it on Mozilla Connect. Product team members check it out regularly and seriously consider everything posted. You can either comment in the related World Cup Widget discussion or post a new idea.

PS I'll mark Konstantina's reply as a solution since it's probably the best we can share. However, I highly encourage you to post on Connect as well!
