Minimise, restore and close window buttons too small in Linux Mint 22

On Linux Mint 22 on my desktop, the buttons in the RH top corner are tiny. I have measured the minimise line and it is under 2mm long. I have tried various searches to see if these controls could be made larger, but most questions suggest changing the theme. I don't want to do that, and I'm sceptical that it would make any difference anyway. Has anyone got any suggestions how they could be made bigger? I'm using the MATE desktop. Thank you
