Two local folders named 'Outbox'.
Linux Tbird 140.7.1esr (64bit) running under Ubuntu 22.04, and with imap on all my email accounts. I normally manage emails locally in Tbird, hardly ever go to webmail.
In my list of Local Folders, there are two which show up with the name 'Outbox' and identical icons. Viewing each folder's Properties, the name Outbox is unsurprisingly given for both, but their locations are different: mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Unsent Messages mailbox://nobody@Local Folders/Outbox
1. Are these two folders supposed to have the same purpose? One (or both) must be for the [in my case extremely rare] situation where I compose an email but its actual sending is frustrated (eg router turned off).
2. I cannot rename either folder, eg by attempting to edit the Name field when viewing the properties box. If their function is distinct, being able to change the name to reflect this would be nice.
3. If the purpose is the same, presumably only one is actually used by Tbird. Which one? Can I delete the other, and if so how - just in case Tbird would automatically recreate it?
Not a big deal - this has been the situation for a long time (brain fog stops me remembering just how long) - but this is untidy and it niggles.

Outbox is a folder name that Thunderbird provides.
Unsent Messages might be something created by an add-on or a language/localization change.
Thanks Wayne. Just to be absolutely clear, both folders are actually labelled Outbox in the list of folders. It's only when looking at their properties in Thunderbird that I can see a difference.
Following up your suggestion, it is plausible that the 'Send Later' addon might be responsible for the 'Unsent Messages' if naked 'Outbox' is a Thunderbird standard. I have no other addons except Emoji.
So I think maybe the two folders have these distinct purposes. 1. 'Outbox' is used by Thunderbird when sending is frustrated and emails put there will be sent as soon as Thunderbird detects it has become possible. 2. 'Unsent Messages' is used by the addon for emails not yet due for dispatch, and is presumably checked from time to time by the addon when Thunderbird is running.
Does this seem right to you?
A pity I can't change the name of the folder to something else, like "For later dispatch"
I can't remember when I downloaded the addon - blame Brain Fog for all related issues, there's a lot of it about in this house!
Renaming of "special" folders is not allowed, as it might break the functionality associated with those folders.
No renaming.... a shame, as in this particular case an alias would have been useful.
