Suspicious download request claimed to be Firefox

Was prompted to download a program to Firefox before I paid my phone bill. I did not recognize the web address or name that was shown, and the account number from which recent payment was deducted did match any accounts I hold or held in the past. I cancelled the action immediately, without downloading, but am still concerned. I found nothing on the internet about this, just got a summation chat AI response that stated the phone company had no download/extension for Firefox. Has anyone had any experience like this or could someone shed some light on this?

Two years ago Norton spoofed me in my regular email. No links, just a phone number. His phone number was Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. I was a fool and fell for the thief. He locked my computer. It was expensive. But not as bad as the Chief of Police in this incorporated town of 4800. At least a computer store could wipe the junk he put on it. And then I got a Lenovo computer and monitor. I loved Dell and their all-in-one printer. Avoid Brother all-in-one or any printer with the fax as the first option. It drains all the color liquids. good luck with your issues.

I just noticed an error in my first post and would like to correct one item as follows: This statement "and the account number from which recent payment was deducted did match any accounts I hold or held in the past, should read, "did NOT match any accounts...", etc. Thank you for understanding.

You did the right thing by cancelling it. That definitely sounds like a sketchy popup or redirect and not something your phone company would use, especially since legit carriers don’t require Firefox downloads to pay a bill. If nothing was installed, you’re likely fine, just clear your browser cache, run a quick malware scan, and keep an eye on your accounts for peace of mind.
