Deletion bookmarks and passwords

I was asked to create a new profile in order to keep using Firefox, despite never having an account. After I clicked okay, it opened the new version of Firefox, but without all the passwords, bookmarks and history of the past few years. This is really inconvenient. I have since then made an account, but the fact that I can't find any of this data anywhere has me worried that every time I update Firefox it will wipe my account.

Hello! If you have created an account now, Firefox will not delete it for you. After the update, you just need to sign back into your account with your password. However, if you want to get your old data back, follow these steps:

1. Type about:profiles in the search bar. 2. Find your profile and open the root folder of the profile by clicking Open folder. 3. You will see many subfolders and files. Find the compatibility.ini file. 4. Open it and where it says LastVersion=140.0_20250728090735/20250728090735, change 140 to 141 and save the changes. 5. Open your old profile and see if everything is fine.

I hope this helps you!

Thanks, this seems to have worked! Though links are still opened in the new session -- but that is not an issue as I've been able to transfer my passwords, bookmarks etc. Thanks again for your help!

I'm a little confused about what you changed. However, on the about:profiles page, click the "Set as default profile" button for the profile you want Firefox to use for external links.

I'm glad you managed to solve the problem!

It did not worked for me. The 141 was already there and the passwords are still gone. For some reason only saved 3-4 of the many I had. No other profile but default. I don't even see and Old Firefox file anywhere. Any suggestions? or looks like I'll have to start over... a long time ago I exported my passwords to save. Outdated of course. I appreciate all help

If you check your profile folder (use the Root Directory link on the about:profiles page), can you find a file named logins-backup.json? If you see that, make a safe copy somewhere, then open it in a new tab in Firefox to see how many logins are in the file.
