I am able to save passwords during a Firefox session but when I close Firefox and then open it again the passwords are all gone.

I have checked settings for Privacy and Security and have tried various combinations including Remember History and a variety of combinations under Use Custom Settings for History.

I am running Firefox 137.0 (64-bit) under Windows.

Any assistance gratefully received. This is an annoying and time-consuming problem.

Thanks!

Step 1: Check Password Settings

Open Firefox and click on the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner.
   Select Settings (or Options).
Go to the Privacy & Security panel.
Scroll down to the Logins and Passwords section.
Ensure that the option "Ask to save logins and passwords for websites" is checked.

Step 2: Check History Settings

In the Privacy & Security panel, scroll down to the History section.
If you are using "Use custom settings for history," make sure that "Clear history when Firefox closes" is unchecked. If it is checked, click on the Settings button next to it and ensure that "Saved Passwords" is not selected for clearing.

Step 3: Check for Corrupted Profile

Sometimes, a corrupted profile can cause issues with saving passwords. You can create a new profile to see if that resolves the issue:

Type about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter.
Click on Create a New Profile and follow the prompts.
Start Firefox with the new profile and check if passwords are saved correctly.

Step 4: Check for Extensions

Some extensions can interfere with password saving. Try disabling all extensions:

Click on the menu button and select Add-ons and themes.
Go to the Extensions tab and disable all extensions.
Restart Firefox and check if the issue persists.

Step 5: Check for Antivirus/Firewall Interference

Sometimes, antivirus software or firewalls can interfere with Firefox's ability to save data. Check your antivirus settings to ensure that Firefox is allowed to save data. Step 6: Update Firefox

Make sure you are using the latest version of Firefox:

Click on the menu button and select Help.
Click on About Firefox. Firefox will check for updates and install them if available.
   Restart Firefox after updating.

Step 7: Reset Firefox

If none of the above steps work, you can reset Firefox to its default state. This will remove extensions and custom settings but keep your bookmarks and saved passwords:

Click on the menu button and select Help.
   Choose More Troubleshooting Information.
   Click on Refresh Firefox.

Step 8: Check for Malware

If the issue persists, consider running a malware scan on your computer to ensure that no malicious software is interfering with Firefox.

Hi Mutaz,

Thanks for your detailed reply. I have been through your list in sequence and checked all items.

It seemed like creating a new profile solved the issue. I was able to close and re-open Firefox and passwords were still there. I also cold-booted the PC and passwords were still there. However the following day passwords had all disappeared again.

I notice also that bookmarks also disappear. Maybe that is of help?

Settings all appear to be as you have instructed. I created a new profile which solved the issue temporarily but then the problem returned.

There are no extensions.

Norton 360 is set to allow Firefox to operate.

I am running the latest version of Firefox, 137.0.1

I reset Firefox using the Refresh Firefox procedure.

Norton 360 Malware scan shows nothing.

What else can I try?

Many thanks.
