If I key a search term into the browser bar and hit enter it begins searching. About 95% of the time nothing happens. No message. I just notice the 'x' to stop the search is gone, and a 'retry' circle replaces it.

This has been going on for months. I have used firefox for years. I have renewed it, replaced it, removed all addons, accepted updates usually each day. stopped accepting updates. Refreshing, renewing, seems to help for a couple minutes. Deleting all history helped...maybe. I am on satellite internet. Also use chrome. Most of the time now, After I key a query in firefox, I switch to chrome and do the same query while waiting. Chrome works. Just doesn't have all my passwords and sites yet.

I am on windows 7 home premium. I have an AMD FX 6100 6-core CPU running at 3.3 Ghz. I have 8 gigs of RAM. I am not overclocking. I use Avast antivirus. A few months ago I bought the avast cleanup tool which was a massive mistake, I had already done all the things it wanted to try, it is just a nuisance. In settings, I have a message that says firefox is managed by my organization. I wish I could get rid of that. I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks in advance.

I might have found the problem. It appears that one of the numerous updates to firefox caused it to get blocked by my firewall, which has not changed in my memory. when I looked at the settings firefox was not authorized. I have used it for many years with no problems. strange it was blocked. But the last 2 searches I tried worked. I really really hope it is fixed.

I can probably edit the registry and change the setting for importregistrysetting to false to remove the 'managed by organization' message in settings, no big deal there if I can get searches to work.

Still have the problem. Adding firefox back to the firewall seemed to have fixed it, but not really. After about a day, most searches fail to return results. When I get results, none of the links work when clicked on. I realize this is like shouting into a barrel and I will get no help. As I research this, until I give up and remove firefox, I will continue to post results. Maybe I can help someone. And still, i get update after update after update. I think that is because this thing is broken beyond repair and nobody is working on fixes, just on spying and political correctness.

It is silly for me to continue to look for help. I am totally aware that there is no help, if I cannot fix it alone, it is not going to get fixed. I added firefox to the firewall. Deleted everything. Quit accepting updates, they just seem to break things I had working before. Continue to shuffle things to Chrome, which works. Moving email now, facebook next. May use twitter again if Elon Musk really intends to allow freedom of speech on what was a leftwing pulpit for the cult of climate and trump haters. I know, I know, firefox belongs to the left now. Probably has something to do with why it no longer works. might come back here to complain sometimes. Used to, people wanted things they were invested in to work, something to make them proud. I guess that no longer matters. I wish I could actually work on it, but I am old and have too many projects already. This will probably never be seen by anyone. That is fine, probably for the best. Something funny I heard today - someone talking about an ecommerce site that belongs to the Chinese but it is based in Boston. I replied that this was not strange at all, we have the top guy in the White House who is owned by the Chinese. His son is a power broker for him. This is known, but the FBI forces the tech companies to censor any mention of it. How about that? I wish you people could see the America I grew up in. And the countries I have worked in and have friends who used to want to come to America. They already saw Argentina though, and are getting wary about getting caught up in another situation like that here.
