All of my google accounts accept one got converted over to OAuth2 and they all work. One of them does not.

I have gone through all the steps regarding, port, cookies, javascript. But no luck. I have compared account setting in google and thunderbird and they are the same as the ones that work.

If I leave it as Normal Password then it has good days when it works for receiving and sending. But most days it does not.

If I change it to OAuth2, then it keeps asking for verification - where I log in and allow thunderbird access. This never stops.

I am on 91.10.0

Help please !!!!

This suggests that your normal password is still stored by the Password Manager.

If I change it to OAuth2, then it keeps asking for verification Perhaps the oauth token has been created and stored, but for some crazy reason, it is sending the 'normal' password which of course would now fail because an oauth token is expected.

  • Menu app icon ≡ > Preferences > Privacy and Security
  • Under 'Passwords' section
  • Click on 'Saved Passwords'

You should see line begining with:

'oauth://accounts.google.com (https://mail.google.com/) - and user name = gmail email address

That is the oauth token and it is ok.

If you see lines that start with: mailbox://(if pop), imap:// (if imap) and smtp:// where username = problem gmail address example:

  • Select the mailbox://(if pop), imap:// (if imap) and smtp:// lines for the gmail address/username and click on 'Remove'.
  • When finished click on Close

Exit Thunderbird, wait a few moments then restart. Now there is only an oauth token stored.

I had already tried all those things, except exiting. Which I have now. Still no luck.

  1. I didnt mention before I am using POP, but neither send or receive work.
  2. On my mobile I use Fairmail with IMap, that still works
  3. I tried creating a new account on thunderbird, still no luck. Except it linked to an exisiting smtp entry for another account. It took a while to sort that out.
  4. I see that if I use Normal Password, then it saves it, but doesnt work anyway.
  5. If I use OAuth2, it doesnt save it, just keeps popping up the Authentication/Verification screen from Google, where I log in and give Thunderbird access. Must have done this over 30 times now.
  6. I even removed Thunderbird from 3rd party app on the google side, and tried again. But still no luck.
  7. It tells me, username, password or config are wrong. The first two, cant be, because I am logging in. And theres not much to selecting port number and auth method.
  8. This time, I have restarted Thunderbird after each attempt.
