Firefox (and Thunderbird) has become slow in recent days. I've used the Refresh option, removed all add-ons and it's still slow. The best Speed Test = 23Mbps. With Microsoft Edge = 116Mbps.

Start Firefox using Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Troubleshoot(Safe) Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

You can check the connection settings.

  • Settings -> General -> Network: Connection -> Settings

If you do not need to use a proxy to connect to internet then try to select "No Proxy" if "Use the system proxy settings" or one of the others do not work properly.

See "Firefox connection settings":

I have uninstalled the last couple of Windows updates including a Security update, and I got the speed back. I've looked at Widows Update now and there are two Windows 10 updates available but no Security Update, which worries me. I've disabled Updates for a few days. Any advice would be most welcome. I do not want to use Edge as my default browser.

What updates did you remove?

I have the same problem. I switched to Firefox as my default browser a couple of weeks ago and had no problems. However, earlier this week, Firefox started running exceptionally slow. Windows 10, Firefox version 94.0.1. Internet speed is 56 d/l. With Chrome, it's 300 mpbs. I tried the Troubleshooting mode but it didn't do anything. If I can't get my internet speed back, I'm going to have to switch back to Chrome. Is there an easy fix for this?
