I have an urgent problem. I am about to loose access to my existing primary and secondary emails, as i have been forced to try to change to a new email provider. I set up with Gmail and it was working fine until I updated windows on the 20th. Now I cannot log in I get the following error massage:

Corrupted Content Error The site at https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?pli=1 has experienced a network protocol violation that cannot be repaired. The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because an error in the data transmission was detected. Please contact the website owners to inform them of this problem.

I have searched online and deleted my google cookies and cleared my cache without effect. I am getting desperate to get this fixed. My new ISP does not provide email addresses but I need two of them one for myself and one for my mother. I have been told that my existing emails my be deleted as early as 30th March 2021. I have been trying to get these new emails in place for nearly three months and I feel like this is the last straw.

I know I am using an old version of Firefox, but I need to keep my old style extensions as I use them to help me with my visual disability.

Hello, I am sorry that you are facing this problem. I will try to help you.

Reboot all network routers first, then reconnect the Lan cable if present. Then delete all cookies and all temporary browser files, then restart your computer and delete all temporary files again both in the browser and on the computer. The problem must be resolved. Firefox has a temporary workaround - press Ctrl + F5, then it will load the page, but after closing the page, you need to do the same again.

I understand that you have a disability, but still I would advise you to install a newer version of FireFox, the new version also has special features!

Thanks for the question, all the best.

What features do you think are missing in more recent Firefox versions including the current release ?

It is possible that your old Firefox version isn't supported properly You can get a "Corrupted Content Error" error if there are multiple location redirects send via the HTTP response headers.

Hi, I will, deal with cor-el's answer first because it is the shorter reply.

I have the following legacy extensions:

      • For visual problems***

Classic Theme Restorer 1.7.7.2 - I need this to get rid of the rounded corners and 3D shading Color That Site! 0.17 - I need this to change background colours in some of the sites I visit NoUn Buttons 1.1.4.1.1-signed.1-signed - I cant cope with the unified button

      • Coping with work flow and memory problems***

Tab Groups 2.1.4 - I desperately need to keep this I have over 800 tabs sorted into 54 groups and 3 Windows - some of the tabs go back over a year and I am still referencing them ScrapBook 1.5.14 - I have many saved things here. I can't get on with pocket - scrapbook is much easier to use About sessionstore 0.34 - I have used this in the past to pull URL's out of old sessions that weren't working Session Manager 0.8.1.13 - Saves the state of everything so I can get straight back to work if there is a power cut or other interruption FEBE 8.9.3.1 - backs up Firefox's Data and Environment in case of disaster Hotfix for Firefox bug (armaggeddon 2.0) mitigation 1.1.4 - this is the fix for when the big changes were made - I think it was when FF52 came out.

ReminderFox 2.1.6.3 - I use this when I am gaming to manage crop timings and other expiring features

SQLite Manager 0.8.3.1-signed.1-signed - this one could probably go as I haven't needed to use it since I got my Win 10 machine about a year ago, and I can't remember what I was using it for.

Re my disability issues, I have keratoconus which causes multiple images and extreme colour sensitivities to bright yellow orange and red colours - win 10 is very annoying in this respect, although Dark Mode does help a fair bit. When I had Win 7 on my old machine I was able to individually set my colour scheme (but that is not important right now) I am including an image to show what my colour scheme looks like now.

Also I had a bad car accident in my late teens and my memory is not good - I can look at something and forget it the instant I take my eyes off it. Another problem I have Is I can't remember how to do something if it is not something I do every day. Another thing is that I don't remember where things are in my computer unless they are are on the desktop - it is like they don't exist at all unless I can see them. I have the same problem in real life as well - I can't find things if they have been put away!

Just to add icing to the cake I am also Autistic and I didn't get diagnosed until quite late in life (44) so I don't always understand what I am being told and must often ask for clarification. I have been using Firefox for more than 20 years (I started in the Netscape years) so I am not too dumb, but As I said if I haven't done something before, or haven't done it for a long time I always run into trouble, and I don't cope well with change.

If you have any bright ideas, I would love to hear them, Ciao, Kaelkitty.

This is my reply to tape,

"Reboot all network routers first, then reconnect the Lan cable if present." I have one computer, connected to the "NBN™ Satellite Broadband In Rural Australia With Sky Muster™" - I was told never to turn this connection off or I would have to have the technician come and set it up again. I think a network router is like the Modem I used to have when I was living in the city and connecting via ADSL+ , also What is a LAN cable?

"Then delete all cookies and all temporary browser files, then restart your computer and delete all temporary files again both in the browser and on the computer." Cookies I can find but I am not sure about 'temporary files' and the applicable locations

"The problem must be resolved." - I agree

"Firefox has a temporary workaround - press Ctrl + F5, then it will load the page, but after closing the page, you need to do the same again." Thank you, this worked, so that is something

"I understand that you have a disability, but still I would advise you to install a newer version of FireFox, the new version also has special features!" Please see my reply to cor-el above - I think that covers most of what I need.

Ciao, Kaelkitty.

Hi, if you haven't already, try restarting your PC. If that doesn't help, see if it's OK using another browser, such as Edge. If it is, that will verify that it's a Firefox specific issue, so hold down the Shift key when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode which will temporarily disable all extensions. More - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If it's OK in Safe Mode, disable any theme and your extensions - 3-bar menu > Add-ons > Themes/Extensions, then restart Firefox; now if it's still OK, re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some extensions. If it isn't one - or more of your extensions and you use userChrome.css or userContent.css this is also disabled in Safe Mode, so should be regarded as an additional suspect, and can be disabled to test by placing /* before, and */ after the file in the chrome folder, then restarting Firefox.

Try deleting ALL references to Gmail. To do that, open the 3-bar menu > Library > History, then click the Show All History link at the bottom of the list to open the History-library window. Search for Gmail by typing it into the Search History field in the top-right corner. Now in the search results, right-click on Gmail, and select Forget About This Site. (Browsing and download history, cookies, cache, active logins, passwords, saved form data, exceptions for cookies, images and pop-ups for that site will be removed). Give it a few minutes to complete the deletion, then try the site (not from an old bookmark) again. More - Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox.
