Line spacing vs Paragraph spacing. And search engine selection in TB 52.4.0
Hi, am using TB 52.4.0 (32-bit) w/ Win10. Every time I get a TB update, I get a really annoying and unwanted reconfiguration of my settings. How do I go back to single spacing after hitting the Enter key? When I go to Options > Composition > General tab, I do NOT see the line "When using paragraph format, the Enter key creates a new paragraph". So what do I do? Also, how do I change the default browser to Firefox? The default browser in Bing, and Firefox is not listed as a option. Thanks in advance to all responders, S.

I think you have two different questions in one
1) Try Tools->Options, Composition, General tab.
Uncheck Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default
See attached image
2) You are using Windows 10 and you have Edge as your default browser (I assume because I can't understand if that is your issue.
a) Hit the Start button and type "default" (without quotes). Click on Default app Settings.
Scroll down to Web Browser, click and change it to Firefox
b) If you are using firefox but complain about the Bing search, just click on the left side of the search bar and select a different search engine.
Also check under Tools->Add Ons (hit the Alt key to show the menu bar) that you have no Extensions or Addons from Bing
In any case, TB does not select the default browser it just sends Windows an "Open this URL" and Windows will select which software opens those links. For example if you hit a link that points to phone:// then it will open Skype or the Phone app depending on the Defaults set.

Thanks for your suggestions. First problem seems solved. Second problem (Bing) isn't. My default browser is Firefox (see 1st attached image). When I click the dropdown menu for Default Search Engine, there isn't an option for Firefox, and I don't see an option to add to the dropdown menu (see 2nd attached image). Or am I missing something? Thx, S.
I see the search engine. I have never used it. I don't know what is it for,
I don't see a place to add a new Search Engine
Sorry I can't help with that. Still I don't know where do you search and what for.
I don't have the first option set (When Thunderbird launches...) so I go straight to e-mail when I open TB.
Thx for your help. At least one really annoying, repetitive problem solved. Maybe someone can weigh in on the search engine issue? A bientôt, S.

BTW, you don't need to change the paragraph settings. If you want a new line, use shift+enter instead of just enter
Adding DuckDuckGo as a search engine option
In the menu bar, select Help. Select Troubleshooting Information. Select Show Folder.
Sorry, don't see any object named "Show Folder".
Firefox is not the search engine, it is a browser. Search engine works using a browser eg: Bing, Google, etc
Example: google search engine works in a Firefox browser.
So that list in Thunderbird Options will not include browsers. In Firefox browser: You add/select which search engine to use by default via 'Menu icon' > Options' > 'Search'
To add eg: google to the search engine list in Thunderbird there are a couple of options that I can locate.
Read info at both of the following links before deciding which method to use.
re : In the menu bar, select Help. Select Troubleshooting Information. Select Show Folder.
In the 'Application Basics' section for Profile Folder, the button used to say 'Show Folder'
Very recently the wording was modified to say 'Open Folder'.
But it basically means the same thing. A new window will open showing the contents of your Profile name folder.

What a lovely way to select a Search Engine... why don't you reuse firefox code instead?
God there are things better left out that done this way.
