Newly installed, often crashes
Hello Techies...! Newly (sunday) installed with a zero errors Lubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Live session. It often crashes. First I guessed it crashed starting a video, e.g. in YouTube, but tonight it crashed while reading a Facebook profile. I always use Private Windows, I installed HTTPS Everywhere and the only other extension installed is Ubuntu Modifications, as you are aware. Firefox health report is enabled and backlogged crash report are allowed to be sent so I guess you can read this data, too. Do yoh need to know more to help me? Many thanks, Alberto

As you say is old so think your going to have to move to the Extended Release Version to get your full use out of Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/ This would be the easiest solution I would think and maybe your profile can go over to it.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.定位到答案原位置 👍 1

Hi Alberto67, On the Linux machine can you please copy the data from this page:
- Open up a new tab and type in about:support into the url bar
This information will tell me more about the hardware to make sure that all the webgl and about:support info does not show anything weird. There is some unsupported hardware among Linux machines for Firefox
However crashes can also be cause by addons, the about:support info will include that as well.
I am looking forward to your reply, guigs
If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that start with "bp-".
- bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the report ID of recent crash reports "on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page".
- click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the about:crashes page and see all crash reports.
Alternatively you can open about:crashes via the location/address bar.

Hello Techies...! Some more information about the behavior of my Firefox. That is: time matters. I turn on my pc, update the system and start the Firefox session. For an hour, more or less, everything proceeds smoothly, the browser is stable. Afterwards it gets "weak" and instable, 4 crashes in the last 20 minutes. I'm running a Live session now. I hope this can help you to help me. Many thanks!
I'm sad about your silence... Do you think my browser is a hopeless case? Thanks
Some of the crash reports could suggest a problem with your processor (CPU). The most recent report is a problem with decoding MP4.
- Firefox 54.0 Crash Report [@ mozilla::gfx::Unpremultiply_SSE2<T> ]
- Firefox 54.0 Crash Report [@ mp4parse_capi::mp4parse_new ]
Do you have a processor that supports SSE2? I'm not seeing any specific processor notes in the crash report.
Maybe try the Firefox 54 release from the Mozilla server or the 52 ESR release instead of the version from the repositories of your Ubuntu distribution.
Hello cor-el...! I flipped through and I found how to detect whether my CPU supports SSE2. I ran "cat /proc/cpuinfo" and the result is as follows...:
processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 6 model : 10 model name : AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ stepping : 0 cpu MHz : 2073.023 cache size : 512 KB physical id : 0 siblings : 1 core id : 0 cpu cores : 1 apicid : 0 initial apicid : 0 fdiv_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr sse syscall mmxext 3dnowext 3dnow 3dnowprefetch vmmcall bugs : fxsave_leak sysret_ss_attrs bogomips : 4146.04 clflush size : 32 cache_alignment : 32 address sizes : 34 bits physical, 32 bits virtual power management: ts
As far as I can understand about this matter (double dutch for me) the only flag dealing with some "SS*" is SSE. Then? Is it a problem of hardware obsolescence of my machine?
And: why does not the browser crash at all when I run the Live session from which I installed this OS and this Firefox, as the image I burnt to get the Live DVD was of february 16th, 2017? To me very recent...
Many thanks! Alberto
This the usual response here : https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-crashes-troubleshoot-prevent-and-get-help
As was mentioned some issues with MP4. Update or re-install the drivers for both video and sound maybe of use to perform.
libpthread-2.23.so & libc-2.23.so were highlighted in red and google search terms : Firefox and the name suggest a stack over flow issue which I have no idea about but these guy's do : https://stackoverflow.com/
No not hopeless it is us as we volunteer our time so we do the best we can with it all.
Did you view any of your crash reports ?
Hello Pkshadow, yes, I read some of the crashes in order to understand something about this problem. I read some information about my CPU, it's 2003's as the motherboard, and to me it is very unlikely to find new drivers as the maker's site doesn't list my CPU anymore. I'm going to ask its Support community, though...!
More, I wonder this: the fact that my CPU doesn't "have" SSE2 extension is a defect due to its age, ok. But shouldn't Firefox detect this lack and setup itself in order to use only SSE? Shouldn't Firefox be a bit more old-machines-friendly? A bit more flexible to poor computers?
Many thanks and regard Alberto

Hello Pkshadow, just a side quaestion, not to open a new one:
how long do you think Firefox ESR is going to run without SSE2 cpus extension?
(because when even Firefox ESR starts to need SSE2 cpus extension I can throw my machine away...!)
Thanks a lot Regard
It is possible that your Linux distribution has a Firefox version that still supports SSE.
