After more than a decade of using Thunderbird with my Starpower mail account, I have just started having the following issue: When I click on T-Bird icon, site opens and "Add Security Exception" window pops up, stating "You are about to override how Thunderbird identifies this site. This site attempts to identify itself with invalid information. Wrong Site. The certificate belongs to a different site, which could mean that someone is trying to impersonate this site."

It then asks me to confirm this exception. No new messages load, although they do show up on my webmail account. I have been using TrendMicro AV (and Windows 8.1) for almost a year, with no T-Bird mail issues until this past week.

Please inspect the certificate by clicking the 'View' button - see the attached screenshot for instructions. What is the cert for. i.e. which domain? Who is the issuer of the cert?

Please post a screenshot of the certificate viewer window.

Hello, again. I was not notified of your reply before I started my travel on Jan 21, and have just returned. I am attaching an image of the certificate viewer. Starpower (RCN) does not advise of any certificate changes or involvement of GoDaddy.

Thank you again for your help.

You're trying to connect to pop.erols.com.

However, the server sends a cert for *.rcn.com. This is what Thunderbird complains about.

You should talk to your email provider or hosting provider. They screwed up. You may create an exception, but this wouldn't fix the underlying problem.

Thank you so much! It just seems odd that it suddenly happened after all these years of "happy motoring". I'll follow your advice.

You will notice those certificates have a "use by date" so your provider has to update them and do it correctly. Usually every three years. The one you postyed the image of commenced on the 9th January 2017.

This is not a Thunderbird problem, only Thunderbird notifying you of an underlying problem caused by your provider/host and their new server certificate that is not correct for the purpose..
