Well; my question just about says it all: when I want to send an e-mail and I want to change the text- color, this yellow triangle appears; covers half of the green lock and it really scares the daylight out of me  ! What does ' color' have to do with security  ?? I could of course just not use an different color (than this triangle does not appear), but it bothers me - it just makes no sense to me. I'm an 'internet-rookie' (I've only just got my first pc), so please go easy on me and keep it simple  ! Thank you in advance  !!! I'm not going to add an image; wouldn't know what image to add anyway ..... (?) And I haven't a clue what to do next; I want to send this message, but HOW  ???

The yellow triangle indicates that you are on an HTTPS page but Firefox loaded display content (usually an image) on an HTTP connection, so now there is mixed content. Firefox automatically blocks types of mixed content that could be dangerous to your privacy, such as scripts, but it doesn't automatically block images, it just signals you on the icon. This article has more information: Mixed content blocking in Firefox.

So why is it happening? Something about the color chooser probably is loading over HTTP instead of HTTPS. I suggest bringing it to the site's attention so they can look into it.

Hello,

In order to better assist you with your issue please provide us with a screenshot. If you need help to create a screenshot, please see How do I create a screenshot of my problem?

Once you've done this, attach the saved screenshot file to your forum post by clicking the Browse... button below the Post your reply box. This will help us to visualize the problem.

If everything goes as it's supposed to go, you should find the screenshot under this page (oh, I'm feeling such a nitwit ...) My only excuse is that I've only just recently (less than 3 months ago) got on the internet and bought a laptop (works with Windows 10, but I use Firefox as my browser - don't like Bing at all). I quess that now I'm supposed to send this by clicking on 'post reply'  ? Here goes ..

Place your mouse on the icon. Do not click it. A message will be displayed.

Thank you so much 'jscher' !!! But I already suggested this to KPN webmail - some quy from customer services; he made me feel like I'm nuts (maybe true, but still ...) E-mailing the company is no option (they don't give you their e-mailaddress), so I think I'll have to get pen and paper and write them an oldfashioned letter ..... But once again: thank you so much; I really appreciate it  !!! Greetings from Amy47 (just Amy)

Hi Amy, to help them with their investigation, you could open one of Firefox's Developer Tools and see whether it pinpoints the problem image.

After starting a new message, before clicking the color button, open the Web Console in the lower part of the tab using either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+k
  • menu button > Developer > Web Console

This may or may not display any existing messages from Firefox or the page.

After you click the color chooser, when the icon indicates mixed content, check for any messages mentioning it. If the list is lengthy, typing mix in the search box at the upper right above the list in the console will show only lines containing mix so that might help.

Anyway, whether it points to a specific problem image or not, you can close the console using the little X at the right end of its top bar to proceed with normal browsing.

Thank you so much jscher2000  !!! I've just had a live chat with KPN webmail (one of the guys from customer services) and he was very sceptical. Didn't think they are resposible .... But I will forward your complaint and you will hear from us .... (sound familliar  ?) By the way: everything you told me to do in your mail .... HELP  !!! I only decided to get a laptop and go 'digital' because I wanted to hear AND SEE Jeff Lynne's ELO ...... What was I thinking  ?! But again: Thank you so much  !!! Greetings from Amy47 - aka Amy (it's 20.47hrs. over here right now)

Dear jscher2000, I just read your mail again (might as well be chinese as far as I'm concerned); here are some dumb questions for you: what's a web console  ? What's a tab  ? I DID click on that creepy yellow thing and got the message that some content is unsafe (there must be a different word for this, but right now I'm too beat to even get up and get a dictionary - but you know what I mean, don't you  ?) Thanks again for all your trouble  !!! Greetings form Amy47 (aka Amy)

To mr. jscher2000: I must be a pain in the neck for you, but I just figured out what you ment ... and I saw a whole list of: unreachable code after return statement (like a million of them) and one: use of Mutation Events is no longer supported, use Mutation Observer instead. Does any of this mean anything to you  ??? Than I panicked because I didn't know how to get rid of all that stuff, but than I remembered you mentioning an little x ..... Thank you so much  ! But now: what do I do  ? Greetz, Amy47 (aka Amy)

Hi Amy, the console often is overwhelming. Try using that little filter box at the upper right of the console to find only the lines referring to mixed content. I'm attaching an example for reference.

Of course, this is just for our collective information, since neither you nor I can fix issues with the mail provider's website. So if you don't find it interesting, no need to pursue it.

Hi jscher  ! Finally somebody who says "neither you nor I" instead " me nor you " .... but that's beside the point. I did what you told me to do (my head's still spinning, for not only am I an internet-rookie; I'm also doing this in a foreign language .... ) I gave all the information to my internet /webmail-provider - now I'll just have to wait and see what happens (if anything at all). I'm so grateful to you  !!! Thank you so much  !!! Bye (for now ....  ?) Greetings from Amy47 (just Amy will do)

To: jscher2000 Hi there  ! Didn't think I'd be back here, but I just found out that 'the yellow triangle' does not only appear when using a color in an e-mail, but also on ALL websites that show only pictures. Exhibit 2 : I took a screenshot ..... Question: what's going on  ? Why does Mozilla Firefox do this  ? It scares the daylight out of me  !

Hi Amy, that's a Google image search results page? Because the images come from a mix of HTTPS and HTTP addresses, when Google shows you the original image, you may get mixed content from HTTP sites.

I don't think there is a solution to this but, again, since you are just looking at pictures and not entering sensitive information into the page, I wouldn't worry about it. The alternative would be to use an image search site that doesn't use any HTTPS security at all, which really wouldn't be any better.

Hi Jeff  !

Thanks for getting back to me  ! No, I'm not worried about these sites that show pictures only; for, like you said, I'm not entering sensitive information on these sites (sites, I normally disregard, by the way). But webmail, that's quite a different story. And yes: I use Google as my search engine (can't stand iExplorer). Rookie-question: does this have anything to do with the tag and the SRC- and ALT-attributes  ? It's 00.06hrs over here; bed-time (hint  !)

Hey  !!! I wrote something BEFORE tag - where did that go  ??

tag

Yes, exactly, the img tag is what pulls images into the page, and the src attribute is the URL of the image. When you're on an HTTPS page and the src specifically has HTTP, that triggers the mixed content warning.

And now I'm really angry  !!! I'm not supposed to write an HTML-code  ???

If you decide to run your own website, you'll write HTML code. But there's not much you can do to fix code from Google and other sites. There are ways to modify it after it loads using add-ons, but I'm not sure that's helpful. ??
