Hi there! I have some problem, FF after last update version 44 doing some unwanted deleting of whole my history. Not everytime, but in last 3 days it happened 4x times. When I start FF, I need to log into all of my websites, where otherwise I have active login, so I'm tired when I need to "set up " numerous of my pages fill everywhere manually my usernames, passwords and other stuffs, simply whole of my customization of pages. So problem is simple, FF randomly deletes whole my browsing history, cookies, cache, all... Any idea what is wrong?

Thanks!

A detail like a website remembering you (log you in automatically) is stored in a cookie.

You can use these steps to make a website recognize and remember you:

  • Create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep such cookies, especially in case of secure websites and when cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Exceptions

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes" or otherwise clear history.

  • do not clear the Cookies
  • do not clear the Site Preferences
  • Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, passwords, and other website specific data.
  • Clearing Cookies will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception that you want to keep.

If you use cleanup software like CCleaner or have security software that includes such a feature then check the settings for the Firefox application.

I'm not deleting history and also cookies, only using Click&Clean addon for one reason, I want automatic deleting of download history. That addon is clearing my history, So when I close FF it deletes browsing&download history, form&search history, cookies and cache and that's all and only last hour, because I'm lazy to do this manually and FF setup of deleting history after closing is not so suited for me... but that bug or somerhing is clearing my whole history and not only last hour, again and again, randomly. It has never happened before.

If an extension isn't working properly then you need to contact its developer for support.

I dont think it is problem of addon, because that addon only force firefox to clean history when quiting and it cleans it by standard way like using ctrl+shift+del and FF only perform my last used setup of cleaning as I say, only that 4 stuffs and only last hour. That small windows of cleaning history blinks when quiting so I see that there is no change, only that first four items and last hour are set up.

You can use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop-down list:

  1. click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop-down list
  2. highlight an entry in the drop-down list with the mouse or cursor Down key
do not click the mouse or press the Enter key
  3. press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to delete the highlighted entry

You can also check for issues with places.sqlite, see:

OK I deleted addon Click&Clean and Firefox is deleting my history when closes and opens again, without any deleting from me, just close and reopen of FF makes whole my history is deleted again, like I'm browsing in Private mode, but I'm not... Preferences of FF are set up in stock... this is really tiresome, looks like it is corrupted Deleting of history in Firefox as it came with this last version, after update...

If you close Firefox and then immediately shutdown the computer then you may not give Firefox enough time to finish all cleanup and close completely.

Do you have external cleanup software or security software that runs scheduled at the time that you lose your history data in Firefox if it happens 'randomly'?

Some corruption can happen if Firefox doesn't close properly, but that shouldn't happen all that often and with all data that you experience.

Did you try another check Places Maintenance?

You can let the cookies expire when Firefox is closed to make them session cookies.

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: Keep until: "I close Firefox"

You can create a cookie 'allow' exception to keep specific cookies.

  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data.
  • clearing cookies will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an allow exception you want to keep.

You can look at the "Accept third-party cookie" settings and possibly select "From visited".

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"

You can set network.cookie.thirdparty.sessionOnly to true on the about:config page to make third-party cookies behave as session cookies that expire when Firefox is closed.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

Sometimes I shutdown my PC immediately after closing of Firefox, but before that I quit Firefox many times in the same day without shuting down the PC.

I'm not using any SW which could delete something, I was using addon Click&Clean but I stopped using it when this problem occurs. Also CCleaner I'm using but all checkboxes about Firefox are OFF.

This is like a few days is everything OK, then this happens 1/2/3 times at once (I mean every quit of Firefox) and then again, few days are OK.

As I've said, this problem came with version 44 of Firefox, till this version there was no problem, so I don't think it is about any SW or addons.

Yeah I've tried another check of Places Maintenance. For now, everything goes fine, but later, maybe next closing of Firefox or that one in few days, probably it will occur again. When it happens, and totally randomly occur, whole history is deleted without any deleting by me or any SW, FF looks like a fresh copy, except my Bookmarks and addons, extension, which persist...
