I have multiple address books. One is for members of a group that I lead at the library. The main one is for close friends and family that I often write to. I also have one for people I know from the dog park. Then there are the collected addresses that Mozilla does. The later one is huge and I don't use it.
I am also tired of being 'protected' by Thunderbird not showing me the content of a message. I am smart enough to delete messages that look weird or are from people and organizations that I don't support. I think that the people who run Mozilla may be very conservative, because they often "protect" me from information from organizations that are doing good in the world and those that have a New Age spiritual bent.

You can disable the collection of addresses into Collected Addresses.
You can disable the Scam detection so it never hides content. Scam detection is based on identification of multiple links to other domains appearing in a message, which is a typical trait of malicious messages attempting to spoof a legitimate sender. It doesn't care about the politics or philosophy or the contents.
Both of these settings can be found under Tools|Options.
It's easy enough to use ctrl+a to select all the contents of Collected Addresses and then remove them in one action.
Stop being sick and tired and explore the menus and options available to you.
I'm not sure how any of this relates to your complaint in the query title. I guess you forgot to include the word "book" and maybe the "All Addresses" address book is annoying you too? This has attracted a lot a criticism and hopefully it will revert to remembering the last used address book in an upcoming release. Then you won't have to do that one tiresome additional click to see your preferred address book.
