Help please! Firefox is on a major go slow, especially with videos where it keeps freezing for minutes at a time. I have tried disabling add-ons, I have done a refresh, I have deleted and reinstalled Firefox. I am on a Mac and Safari is working fine. I don't like using Safari so I am desperate to sort this issue. I am not computer literate so I need things explaining as you would do a complete novice. I would be really grateful for your guidance.

Thanks

Try to disable IPv6 (check for other possible causes as well).

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift (Mac: Options) key to see if that helps.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Thank you for your help. Some of those I had already tried and the rest I have just tried but still the same issue with web pages not showing remains.

Regarding videos going slow, I turned off hardware acceleration and then closed Firefox down. That didn't make any difference so I turned it back on and then closed Firefox down and when I re opened it the videos were running OK or at least they are for the time being!

I would be grateful for any other suggestions.
