Hi,

By trying to deal with a Hello bug (impossible call from someone I configured the firefox for direct calling), I disconnected my Hello accounts Mode.

Since then, I just can't connect anymore. Neither the Sign In or Sign up link or the Option/Sign in are working, nothing happens.

Restart Firefox doesn't help.

If someone knows a way to re-initiate the Hello module ?

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I run few tests and it seems to be a Firefox bug.

First It was working all right in a fresh profile so I decided to repair mine. It works. But after configuring and syncing my profile as it was it blocked again.

So I started a new profile and put every add-on one by one and tried the hello connection at each time. It was working all right.

But the bug just happened again, without any modification.

So I finally use the fresh profile again, without any add-ons or whatever and the bug just happened in it too.

The "sign-in or sign up" link doesn't do anything, same thing for option/sign-in.

I'm waiting other people with the same problem to confirm it's a Firefox bug...

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Check that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Never remember history).

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

Hi cor-el and thanks for your help.

I did try Safe mode before repairing my profile, but the bug was still there.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance

All the modification in my personal profile just doesn't matter anymore since I'm making tests on a brand new profile, totally fresh and the bug is still happening. Even in safe mode in this virgin profile, the bug persists.

Check that you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode

Activating permanent private browsing is rebooting firefox and deactivates the whole Hello Module so there is no way to connect or disconnect it. My problem results in an impossibility to reconnect the Firefox Hello Module to the Firefox Account after disconnection.

Here are some screen-shots showing the virgin profile with the Hello module open. The two ways to connect just have no effect at all.

Thanks to Abraxas in the french Help Forum, I found something more relevant.

Here is what appears in the Browser consol when clicking on the connection links : Security Error: Content at about:looppanel may not load or link to chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#.

I hope it will help understanding the bug.

Hi Sablotin, I'm not quite sure what your issue is, but here's a couple of things you could try:

  • Open a new tab, enter "about:config" (no quotes) and press enter
  • Accept the warning that is presented.
  • In the search box at the top, enter "loop." (again no quotes)
  • Look for an item called "loop.hawk-session-token.fxa"
  • Its unlikely to be there, but if it is, right-click it and select "Reset".
  • Whilst you're there, loop for the item "loop.debug.loglevel"
  • Right-click the "loop.debug.loglevel" and select "Modify"
  • Enter the value "All" (no quotes), and select OK
  • Restart Firefox
  • Go to Tools -> Web Developer -> Browser Console to open up the console
  • Then try to sign into Hello.

Watch the console for any messages that come up.

If its just the same security message as before, then you don't need to do anything special. If there is more information could you send it to me? (you might want to do via private - I don't think it contains anything personal, but just in case).

Thanks Standard8,

I'm glad to have new tests to perform since I'm still stuck with my Hello connection.

I did the about:config changes you tell me. Here is the browser console after the changes.

Nothing new except this line : "logInToFxA with fxAOAuthTokenData:" true MozLoopService.jsm:1425

I just can precise that when I'm using the option menu within Hello then sign in, the security error doesn't appear, just the logintofxA line. When I'm using the sign in / sign up link at the bottom of the hello window, both lines appear.

Hope it serves anyway.

Hi Sablotin, I just realised you responded here, but the notification went in my spam unfortunately.

I'm still a bit puzzled as to what is going on. There's a couple more things that you could try at the moment:

- Back in about:config again, if "loop.fxa_oauth.profile" and/or "loop.fxa_oauth.tokendata" are set, try resetting those and restarting Firefox.

- Before you try and sign in, when you open the browser console, toggle the "Réseau" button off and then on. Then try and sign-in. This will hopefully also give network activity information into the console. If the prefs didn't work, then getting a screenshot of the console in this state would likely be useful.

Let me know how that goes.

Hi standard8 and thanks a lot for your help.

Your last advice worked perfectly.

The loop.fxa_oauth.profile was still in is factory state, but the loop.fxa_oauth.tokendata wasn't so I reset it.

Then the sign in process worked again and propose me the firefox account sign in page.

I may have a clue about what happened because when I signed in, I made a error in my password and I got a message in the Hello window. But when I try to connect again using the right password, it didn't work, and the message stayed in the hello window.

I reset the loop.fxa_oauth.tokendata again, restart and connect with the right password and everything worked fine. There may be a problem when signing in with a bad password.

I send you a screen-shot of the browser console in mp if it can help to fix this strange behavior definitely.

Thanks again for your help, I'm glad to be able to use this great hello module with firefox account connection again.

Hi Sablotin, that's great news.

I'm still a little puzzled by what is going on here as I can't seem to reproduce it.

When you enter the wrong password and hit sign-in, does the sign-in tab go away, or do you get an "Incorrect Password" message in a red box above the sign-in area (not in the Hello panel)?

In theory the tab should stay there with the red box, and the Hello button & panel shouldn't be doing anything at that time.

I've taken a look at the code, but I can't really see a way where you'd get stuck in the broken state which is a bit strange.

Hi Standard8,

I'm sorry I missed accuracy in my explanation.

When I enter a wrong password, the sign in tab stay there and I get the incorrect password message in a red box within the sign in tab.

That's when I finally enter the right password that the tab disappear but didn't connect me and prevent me to use the sign in link again.

I got the red message in the hello box only after reseting the loop.fxa_oauth.tokendata and connecting with a bad password.

I'm still able to reproduce the bug in my profile but not in the virgin profile. I've made new screenshots of the browser console reproducing the bug.

I send you the link in mp.

I can't find a way to export all the console in a file so if you know a way to do it, it will be easier.

I can run more tests if you want or if some info are missing in the console...
