This is taking place on my desk top. My phone still has all my email accounts. Not sure if all my contacts are in my phone but way more than my desk top. Should mention new computer in Oct.24 with change from windows 10 to windows 11. Two thing, one, my other email accounts are no longer listed in thunderbird. Still have my main email with it's folders. I did the sinking thing with the phone still missing. Two, My contacts are mostly missing. Had Friends list, Business list, Family list and so on, all gone.

Thunderbird Fails to Create or Support Junk/Spam Folder for Gmail Workspace Account (Critical Issue)

Hello, I am requesting immediate assistance with a critical and persistent problem in Thunderbird. For my Google Workspace account max@dantanas.com , Thunderbird refus… (kàsi)

Hello,

I am requesting immediate assistance with a critical and persistent problem in Thunderbird.

For my Google Workspace account max@dantanas.com

, Thunderbird refuses to create or recognize a Junk/Spam folder. This is not a cosmetic issue — it directly affects email safety, filtering, and daily usability.

Summary of the Issue

Thunderbird does not automatically create a Junk or Spam folder for this account.

Attempts to manually create a Junk or Spam folder fail or are ignored.

Thunderbird’s junk filtering settings for this account are disabled or inaccessible, making filtering impossible.

Other clients (Gmail web, Outlook, mobile apps) create and use a Spam folder normally, which shows the problem is specific to Thunderbird.

This problem has persisted across restarts, folder repairs, and full account removal/re-addition.

Why This Is Critical

Without a Junk/Spam folder, Thunderbird cannot move suspected spam anywhere, leaving the inbox vulnerable.

The built-in adaptive junk filter becomes unusable.

Thunderbird does not comply with Gmail’s standard IMAP folder structure.

This issue prevents Thunderbird from functioning as a secure, reliable mail client for this account.

Steps Already Attempted

Removed and re-added the account multiple times.

Forced folder synchronization.

Repaired folders.

Reset folder permissions in Gmail.

Verified IMAP settings (X-GM-EXT-1, special-use flags, etc.).

Tested other devices — only Thunderbird fails.

Expected Behavior

Thunderbird should automatically recognize Gmail’s [Gmail]/Spam folder as the Junk folder OR allow me to assign one manually.

Instead, Thunderbird behaves as if the account is not permitted to have a Junk folder at all, which is incorrect and breaks essential functionality.

Request

I need help determining:

Why Thunderbird is refusing to create or map a Junk/Spam folder for my Google Workspace domain.

Whether there is a known bug with Gmail Workspace integration that causes Junk folder support to fail.

How to force Thunderbird to recognize or create a valid Junk folder.

Whether this issue requires special IMAP flags, folder mapping changes, or intervention from Thunderbird developers.

This is not a minor inconvenience — it prevents Thunderbird from acting as a secure or usable email client for this account. I would appreciate prompt assistance or escalation.

Thank you, Max Makowski max@dantanas.com

I have 4 emails in Thunderbird, one of those I also have on my phone, it is receiving mail, on my desktop, two of the emails have no email today, and two I have only one email, all should have 10 to 20 or more emails. I do have the emails on the website, but they are not loading onto Thunderbird. I get this message, "The certificate for imap.knology.net is not valid for the server. Someone could be trying to impersonate the server and you should not continue.

 Can you offer any help?

Also how do you check for new email if you're in the program. I have been shutting Thunderbird down and then opening it back up. Is there another way of doing this?

I am having a problem with Thunderbird in that, seemingly at random, Thunderbird stops responding for a few minutes, then it deletes all but 2000 emails locally from my inbox, then, after a while, it re-downloads them all from the server. I have 96973 messages in my inbox on the server.

The email server in question is mail.yahoo.com

I find using format painter is so useful to correct font type and format when cutting and pasting from other sources. Is there a plan to add this to the Thunderbird email portfolio? If not, how can I correct font size and format because when I use the drop down menu, the request is ignored or corrected to something close but not exact, even if I select all the text to format it in one single type and I still end up with text in all sorts of crazy formats. When Thunderbird automatically goes to my email server to check for mail. I got a message on the screen that says "cannot connect, invalid command" I contacted Tech Support at my email provider and insured that my incoming and outgoing server setting were correct, They were of course I have been using them for several years now and I did not recently change them. The tech said there was no problem on their end and that I should possibly contact thunderBkird tech support in case the App has been infected with a virus. Help!

All, recently set up email accounts and all was well. Used TB years ago & liked it for its ease. Now my signature is not working (set up with 'attach signature from a file instead' option FYI). Tried everything I can think of, disable add ons in troubleshoot mode etc. deleing & re-adding it. No new add ons have been added before this happened, they were added prior to setting up signature. And worked fine initially. Thoughts and please keep it simple for someone very old lol - pic attached for help perhaps?

TIA and appreciated

For 3 days, I haven't been able to access my GMX email account. It tells me every time "Login to the server imap.gmx.com with username '[edited from public] @gmx.com' failed. I hadn't changed anything beforehand and all the entered data is correct. My other accounts like gmail, yahoo, works just fine. Tried installing older versions and still no success. Outlook app works fine either. I'm pretty sure that GMX mail server made some changes that Thunderbird is missing. Please verify.

I am getting an error for an outdated certificate on my mail smtp server and when I try to add a security exception Thunderbird does absolutely nothing when i click the button to add a security exception where I can send mail. I end up having to cancel the window and discard my email. It will also not go view the certificate and if you ask it to check it just hangs up forever in and endless loop of checking.

Hi,

I’m using Thunderbird on Windows and recently ran into a certificate warning that I can’t safely interpret, even after searching the web and using AI tools (which gave me inconsistent answers).

Thunderbird tries to connect to the iCloud contacts server p123-contacts.icloud.com (CardDAV). When it does, I get a “wrong site” certificate error. When I click “View certificate”, Thunderbird shows a valid certificate, but not for Apple/iCloud – it’s for login.kraftcom.de (issued by DigiCert / GeoTrust TLS RSA CA G1). I did not accept the exception.

From what I can see online, p123-contacts.icloud.com is a legitimate Apple domain, but it is also mentioned in some phishing / scareware contexts, which makes me even more unsure how to interpret this combination (Apple host + Kraftcom certificate). I’m also not sure whether this is simply a captive-portal / ISP login interception effect or something that should worry the wider community.

My questions:

Is this behavior expected in any scenario, or does it indicate a misconfiguration / MITM situation that Thunderbird should treat as a serious security issue?

Is there anything I should check or change on my side (Thunderbird config, network, ISP, certificates)?

Is there any additional diagnostic information I can provide (logs, screenshots) that would help you assess whether this is a Thunderbird issue or a network/ISP issue?

I specifically did not confirm the certificate exception and I would like to keep my setup secure, but I also want to make sure the community is aware if this is a broader problem.

Thanks in advance for any guidance

I have been using Thunderbird for many years, and it's been a while since I cleaned out my Inbox & Folders. I get about 1200 emails a week, so the clutter is extreme. Yet it is still stable, and now I am waiting to see at what level it falls over. Currently I have 84,544 emails in my Inbox, 131,597 in the Junk Folder,33,718 in Archives, 13,388 in another Inbox, and a whole heap which get deleted when I compact the system.

I reckon compacting it has got rid of another 200,000 or so this year.

I am very impressed, well done guys.
