Hi,

My computer crashed, and when it came back up I'm unable to locater any of my folders in Thunderbird. THis is a HUGE problem for me, as I have SO MUCH stored in the folders there. When I close and restart Thunderbird, it asks me to "Set Up Your Exising Email Address" Blow that it says, "To use your current email address fill in your credentials. Thunderbird will automatically search for a working and recommended server configuration."

So, I think it's treating me like I don't have an account, but I can see my address book with like 4,200 contacts in there.

Please help! Thanks so much in advance.

Looking for a way to let two Windows 10 user accounts access the same Thunderbird account/files.

We have a desktop PC used by two people, 'C' and 'S'. They each have a Windows user account, but share an a general email address (don't ask...)

The Thunderbird installation has at least 32GB worth of mail, going back several years, which I'd prefer not to duplicate on the hard drive. Additionally, mail is only stored on the server for 2 weeks, before being deleted. The Thunderbird installation is accessed from user account 'C'. The computer will, for practical reasons, only be used by one person at a time, but they will both be logged in most of the time, and would likely both have Thunderbird running at the same time.

Is there a way to direct Thunderbird, opened from user account 'S', to the files used by 'C'?

Thanks!

I was browsing this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/adding-a-holiday-calendar

Which says:

  • Select "On the Network", and click "Next".
  • From the Format list, select iCalendar (ICS).

But when I select "On the Network" I see no options for file format (TB 138).

Is subscribing to remote ics files still supported, or must we download the files locally and subscribe to them there?

I rebooted my Windows 11 PC yesterday and apparently Thunderbird updated to version Thunderbird 128.6.1esr (64-bit) during the reboot. Unfortunately, when I opened Thunderbird, it showed a Create New Account screen instead of my existing email accounts. I went to "about:profile" and it lists my existing profile as the default, but it will not access any of the accounts in it. I've tried reinstalling Thunderbird over the existing copy and get the same result. I'm at a loss as to how I can retrieve many, many years of emails in six accounts!

I have been a Thunderbird user for over 10 years and recently my employer has started switching us over to Google Workspace emails. I'm trying to add the email to Thunderbird, but keep getting a blank gray screen (Image 2) in the Google pop-up after clicking "Allow" (Image 1). No error messages are displayed anywhere in the pop-up or in Thunderbird.

I have tried several times with no success. I've tried rebooting, same issue. I've tried disabling all the plugins in Thunderbird, same issue. I've let the screen sit there for over 20 minutes and nothing occurs. I even tried one-time hitting "Deny" and got the same blank screen.

As it is occurring inside Thunderbird itself, I have no way of telling what is going wrong. I know I am signing into my new Google account successfully as I wouldn't reach the page with "Allow".

Anybody know what I can do?

I have followed the instruction https://support.mozilla.org/de/kb/Benutzerprofile-Thunderbird#w_ein-profil-sichern to shift my profile from one harddrive to an other on my PC

The original profile is still on the old location %APPDATA%/Thunderbird I have updatet profiles.ini pointing to the new location At first glance it seemed to work Thunderbird was starting and when I cloesd it the date of files in the new location changed. But when I renamed the old profile in the old location Thunderbird does not start correctly and I only get

   <menuitem id="folderPaneContext-getMessages"
</pre>

^

If I rename the old profiles again to the original names, it starts without any issues

When I attempt to add a Gmail account, I get this error - "Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password"

Below are the steps with screenshots: - checked for no cookies to prevent Google from asking for an actual login - no stored google passwords - didn't put in my password on setup - TB finds the available configuration - prompted to login at google - add google password - allow access - error message

I have restarted Thunderbird. I have checked for updates (even though I have it on auto-update).

Are there settings on my Google or Gmail account that could prevent this from working?

Thunderbird Cannot Connect to Corporate Gmail After Okta Password Reset

I have been using the Thunderbird email client on my Mac for a long time to access my corporate Gmail account. (This is not a personal Gmail account, it is a corporate Gmail linked with Okta.)

In this corporate Gmail account, I do not have access to "App Password" settings or "Less Secure App Access" options. Everything was working fine until 25th April 25. On that day, I updated my Okta password, which also affected my Gmail account because Gmail is connected through Okta.

Since then, my Thunderbird email client has stopped working. It keeps asking me to allow Thunderbird to access Gmail, and even though I allowed it many times, the same pop-up keeps appearing. To troubleshoot the issue, I have tried the following steps:

  • Reset my Okta password again to rule out any password issues. (I am able to log in to Gmail successfully with the new password and I can configure the same Gmail account with the Mac Mail app without any issue.)
  • Upgraded the Thunderbird client to version 137.0.2.
  • Cleared saved passwords and cleared cookies. (Note: "Accept cookies from sites" is enabled under Web Content settings.)
  • Deleted the account from Thunderbird and tried to re-add it.

After this, I started getting the error: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password."

  • While adding the account, I entered my name and email address, left the password field blank, unchecked "Remember Password", and filled in the configuration manually.

When I clicked on "Re-test", it detected the server settings correctly. But when I clicked on "Done", I got the same error again.

  • Created a completely new profile in Thunderbird and tried again, but still faced the same issue:

"Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password."

  • Uninstalled Thunderbird completely and reinstalled it, but the issue still remains. (Please refer to the attached screenshot.)
  • I tried the troubleshooting mode, which disables all the add-ons and themes, but the issue is still the same.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure if this is relevant, but Gmail has made some changes (see the link https://support.google.com/mail/answer/7126229?visit_id=638814378228955739-1844270273&hl=en&rd=1). This might be causing the issue, though it was working fine until I reset my password on April 25th.

Thunderbird 128.9.1esr (64-bit) [Linux Mint] retrieves messages from my 4 email accounts (2x gMail & 2x Yahoo-based). It then displays each email retrieved TWICE. In the past, Left-Clicking on Unified Inbox | Properties then the [Update] button would "single-up" the list into a 1-for-1 relationship. I then sort my mail MANUALLY into local folders or delete unwanted in order to keep my inbox "zero'd".

After my recent Linux Mint 22.1 update, this no longer works and I need to close and re-open Thunderbird to get any "ghost" messages that I haven't sorted or deleted to disappear.

I am sure that I have something configured incorrectly but I can't seem to find it. None of the 4 accounts is "aware of" or forwarding to or retrieving from any of the others - they are totally independent. Yet I get duplicated emails from all 4. Using Browser-based mail client, none of them have duplicated stuff anywhere that I can find.

What documentation should I provide? Thanks.

What happens to inbox (IMAP) when restoring profile from backup?

I have made a backup of my Thunderbird profile using this method:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

If my computer crashes I can restore my messages and settings from this backup, or if I buy a new PC I can copy the data over from a backup made the same day.

The backup contains settings and local folders, but my concern is that the backup also contains the contents of my regular inbox at the time of copying.

The contents in my inbox changes over time, so naturally it will differ from the saved inbox contents in the backup.

So what happens when I paste an older backup into the Thunderbird folder? Will this data overwrite all the contents in my inbox and basically revert the inbox to an older state? Or will my inbox be crammed with doubles?

Since I use IMAP, any changes to the messages in Thunderbird will sync to the mail server, so I really don't want to do anything that deletes things or makes a mess on the mail server.

Of course, it can be good to have a copy of my messages if the mail server crashes, but if I only need to transfer data to a new PC or restore my data after a computer crash, I would rather just download the up-to-date inbox contents from the server. At the same time, it's important to me to make this backup since I want to be able to transfer my settings and local folders.

In this case, should I remove some files in the backed up profile folder before the transfer? If so, which files? The folder structure and content of the subfolders "Mail" and "ImapMail" aren't very intuitive, with various subfolders and multiple files named "Inbox" of various sizes.

Appreciating any clarifications on the matter and help to avoid conflicts between copied/backed up profiles and my current inbox.

Hi,

I've been trying to get to the bottom of an error message that keeps coming up on my client's computer. They first noticed the error (ss) about a couple of weeks ago and anything from then won't download (incoming), but I believe they are able to send emails. I can see that the messages are 'waiting' on the server at least and they can temporarily use Webmail.

I looked through the forums and any other info I could find and have checked or tried the following:

  • If their Antivirus or Firewall are blocking access
  • There is enough space on their system
  • File permissions for the 'Thunderbird' folder
  • Access details
  • Downgrading to an earlier version of Thunderbird

Unfortunately the error is still coming up each time they try to get their messages.

They have been using Thunderbird for almost a year now with one minor issue in that time. And I'm a bit puzzled as to what to try next. Has something similar happened to anyone else? Any suggestions for what I can do or check next?

The email account is through their domain and hosting and they are using Windows 8 and Thunderbird version 102.15.1 (from version 115.18.0 - 32-bit).

Thanks
