Do you mean the icons on the title bar to maximize and minimize the browser window?

Did you try to resize the window while not in maximized mode?
You can also click the Firefox logo at the left end of the tittle bar and choose the Resize entry to see if that works.

Window sizes and positions are stored in localstore.rdf in the Profile Folder.
