Where is this URL "Suggestion" Coming From and How Do I Turn Them Off?

The topmost item shown in the URL bar and the entry just below above the words, Firefox Suggest is an irritant for me. Where is this coming from and how do I eliminate this from the suggestions/autocomplete? I know it is NOT in my bookmarks and not in my browsing history.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Please see Customize Firefox Suggest settings.

And just a note, the addresses shown in the screenshot lead actually to the same page.

Thanks! I should have mentioned that I had already gone through that list without success - even after re-starting FF.

I normally would have agreed with your comment about the URL's resolution. Until that day, it had worked fine for months (even years) and I never noticed this issue. But in my case and on that day, the topmost "suggested" URL took me to some other place (also MS-related) while the one I wanted did not. I thought this might have been a sign-in page. But I tested and found that I was already signed in properly - if I went to the URL I wanted to use. I suppose it could have been some sort of temporary hiccup on the server's side.

But I still wanted to get rid of the undesired "suggestion".

Best

I see, then I guess you are talking about URL autocomplete, not Firefox suggest. When typing a URL in the address bar, this feature completes it with items from your browsing history.

To disable this feature, set browser.urlbar.autoFill Firefox preference to false in the Configuration Editor:

  • Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
  • A warning page may appear. Click "Accept the Risk and Continue" to go to the about:config page.
  • Enter browser.urlbar.autoFill in the Search preference name box.
  • Set the browser.urlbar.autoFill preference (named exactly like that) to false by toggling the Toggle button (or just double-click on the preference).
